2017 OUTSTANDING
GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR AWARD
The Virginia Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (VAFCS) will honor up to two outstanding graduating high school seniors, one (1) in the comprehensive program and one (1) in the occupational program of Family and Consumer Sciences. The presentations will be made at the local level, as well as announced at the VAFCS Annual Meeting.
Application deadline: Postmarked byFebruary 15, 2017. The nominee shall meet the following criteria:
- Enrollment in Family and Consumer Sciences for at least two years during Grades 9 through 12.
- Have an overall grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale during grades 9 through 11, and the first semester of grade 12.
- Have a grade point average of at least 3.0 out of 4.0 in Family and Consumer Sciences classes for grades 9 through 11, and first semester of grade 12.
- Show evidence of leadership in FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) activities.
- Show evidence of leadership in extracurricular activities.
- Submit a statement from the high school guidance department stating the class rank and grade point average.
- Submit a letter of recommendation stating accomplishments of the nominee from the Family and Consumer Sciences Department chairperson or teacher.
- Submit a letter of recommendation from a person of the nominee’s choice (other than a family member or relative).
