Dear Parents

YEAR 12 TRIP TO TATE MODERN

FRIDAY, 11th SEPTEMBER 2015

The study and response to the work of other Artists and Designers is an important

part of the AS Art and Design courses. With this in mind, we have organised a trip to Tate Modern for Friday, 11thSeptember 2015. We are hoping that the trip will act as a catalyst and inspiration for the course. We would also like to take the opportunity to get to know the students a little better and for them to interact with each other, therefore we intend to follow the gallery visit with an optional early evening meal as a group. Attached is the planned itinerary.

As trip organisers we are therefore looking to cover the costs of travel and staff cover. The optional 2 course evening meal with a drink at the very pleasant ‘Real Greek’ restaurant on the South Bank, where we have negotiated a special deal will cost an additional £15.00. Students will need to bring this in cash. If they wish not to partake they will be given an hour and a half remote supervision in which they could utilise the facilities on the South Bank. We obviously hope they will be able to join us to get to know others in the ArtDepartment. The restaurant is a modern Greek, in a ‘Tapas’ or ‘Meze’ style. Vegetarians are well catered for. In deference to the student’s status as ‘young adults’ (and within British law), we are happy to allow them a single glass of wine, beer or soft drink with the meal if they choose (included in the price). Please stress to your child that this is the only time on the trip when alcohol may be consumed and is a privilege not to be abused under any circumstances. If you would rather your son or daughter not be offered this concession then please let me know via the consent form. Please note that students will need to provide their own lunch and, as the Tate is rather pricey, we would recommend sandwiches. At Tate Modern, students will be able to purchase resources for their projects and, therefore, might like to bring some spending money.

We believe the day will be of great benefit to all of our students. However, in order for our planning to proceed, we need to know that sufficient parents would be willing to make a voluntary contribution of £25.00 in order to cover the cost of the trip. Should insufficient parents choose to contribute, we will be forced to cancel the visit.

Please make payment by Wednesday, 9th September 2015. Ouronly method of payment is the online “ParentPay” system. If you do not have your log in details and/or have not used this system before, please contact the School Finance Office who will be happy to help you. They can be reached on 01582 716233 or via email at .

Please do not hesitate to contact them should you have any questions.

Please note that by ticking the “consent” box on the ParentPay website you are consenting to: a) your child participating in this event; b) to making the full contribution towards this event; and c) confirming that your details held by the School are correct. If you do not consent, or if the details are incorrect, please contact Rory Browne/Sarah Beeley in the Art Department directly via the reply slip. The emergency mobile number on the trip itself, held by myself, will be: 07812 596 690

Students are encouraged to bring a variety of art materials, suitable for gallery work (colour pencils, fine liners, pencils etc) and cameras for outside the gallery.

Yours sincerely

Mr Browne
