THE PE DEPARTMENT

The PE Department at Settle College presently consists of four experienced and dedicated members of staff, two of whom are male and two female. The facilities at the school include extensive playing fields with two rugby pitches, three football pitches and lots of surrounding space, hard-standing netball/tennis courts, a multi-gym, an indoor hall and an indoor gymnasium. The post is to cover a maternity leave in the team.

The standards of achievement in the PE Department are reflected in the extra-curricular successes and the results of the academic areas which includeGCSE PE, A-Level PE and CTEC Level 3.

The successful candidate will be expected to invest a lot of time and energy into the well-established extra-curricular programme within the Department. This is considered an integral part of the role, as are the core PE teaching. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will bring a strong commitment to the extra-curricular programme within a variety of sports.

The commitment that Settle College PE staff have invested into the extra-curricular programme has produced tangible results. The school has been awarded National Champions of Girls’ Rugby League, played Rugby Union in the finals at Twickenham and won numerous tournaments within the area across genders.

Creating a positive learning environment for our students is at the forefront of our teaching, regardless of background or ability. The successful candidate will strive to deliver a range of sporting activities using innovative teaching strategies. The PE Department believes physical education provides a holistic learning experience for all our students; therefore, we endeavor to provide an outstanding learning climate where progression in areas including leadership, team work, sporting excellence, confidence and self-esteem are focused upon. Securing the highest outcomes for all of our students and maintaining standards of teaching and learning are essential to the Department and pupils at Settle College.
