Agenda item: / Discussion/conclusions / Follow up: who, when what:1. Approval of Minutes / The meeting was called to order t 1:10 pm. Evan made a motion to adopt minutes. Glenda seconded it.
2. New Introductions / Everyone introduced himself or herself. John Holman is new to the team. He is the patient navigator for Healthy Communities. He helps students determine if they are eligible to enroll in Covered California, Medi-Cal and Cal Fresh formally known as Food Stamps. He is located at the Laney College in the Student Center on the 4th floor in room 410, Tuesday and Thursday from 9-5 (closed 1-2). JI introduced myself as the new permanent clerical assistant II for health services. I advised everyone that if they need anything in relation to the wellness centers I am here to help. Larry Lariosa is also new to the team. He is a marriage family therapist and works at Merritt
3. Kognito / Mz T advised everyone that Veronica was able to login into Kognito yesterday, and that the program is still available. Evan reported that the state has paid for 3-5 years for Kognito. Indra asked everyone to please mention Kognito during class presentations. Mz T also asked John Holman and Larry to complete Kognito. Indra explained that Kognito is an online mental health-training program that provides in-service education for faculty, staff, administrators and students to learn about at-risk individuals, LGBTQ, & Veterans and how to be to help to them. / Veronica Check to see if Larry and John have completed Kognito.
4. Student Learning Outcomes / Indra wants to sets student learning outcomes for the 2015-2016 college2015-2016-college school year. For example, where are the students going? Are they going to the CARE Program, EOPS, etc.? First and foremost, student health services needs to focus on assessment data. Why do we want students to engage in 70% ofexercise? Studies show that students do not engage in enough exercise. Indra pointed out that 450% of students at PCCD are reported to be overweight. We need to assess nutrition and exercise. Indra then asked Evan to share an example of mental health in regards to student learning outcomes. An example that Evan used was did students learn new skills to manage stress? Indra contributed to Evans example by asking, have students achieved the goal they set?
5. HAPPYS / Indra came up with this acronym+ also consulted Dr. Rhee with the District Research Department. With the help of Tham, we created Health Assessment Planning Pathways Yielding Success (HAPPYS). We can table this item until the next meeting.
6. Sugar Detox Workshop / Indra asked Stephanie if she knew anything about the Oakland Community Acupuncture sugar detox program. Stephanie responded by saying she do not know anything about the program. Indra decided to table the item.
7. TB Program / Mz. Glenda and the Healthy Communities team created an Tuberculosis (TB) Skin test screening tool(adapted from the MA program at Merritt) that includes a: TB fact sheet, TB Skin test initial screening information sheet, and a Tuberculosis Test Record sheet that can be used at four Peralta Colleges. Glenda explained that the TB fact sheet is used to understand frequently asked questions. The TB skin test initial screening sheet is used to determine the TB history of the client. At the bottom of the page critical information is in bold so the client can be aware of the next steps in the TB testing process. Glenda also explained that the test record sheet is being used to record results, reported by either the nurse practitioner or the medical assistant. Based on the test result, if it is positive we will make the necessary referral. Robert reported that he refers clients to Highland Hospital. Jon stated that he normally refers clients to 3300 Webster. He believes it called Insight Imaging and only cost $50. / Glenda asked Veronica if she could create a referral sheet so that all four campuses can use the same places. ????
Veronica will create a referral sheet for TB testing referrals by which date:______, and other medical health services as requested by Glenda.MsGlenda. MS Anastasia and Mr. Williamson III will be doing a large TB screening project with Laney Culinary Arts program.
8. Chart Reviews/ Audits: All / Indra reported that the second results from the charts reviews have been great. Glenda is currently working on the charts for HCI, to make sure of legal documents.
9. Mental Health Intern Program / Argosy University has a partnership with PCCD to provide mental health interns. Evan and Lisa are providing supervision for the mental health interns at COA and Laney College. The semester just started but
10. Needs Assessment / Ms. TmZ T mentioned that she met with the Dean of Public health program at UCB in the summer to discuss possible projects for graduate students. The National College Health Survey was too long and perhaps we can do it every 10 years or so, but we need to do a current needs assessment every two years. / Mz T and Mr. Schloss will be working on this project
11. Clery Act / Mr. Schloss gave a brief overview of the clery act and the policy and procedure that Llaney and Merritt has adopted! Basically PCCD needs to be in compliance with sexual assault education prevention and provide support to students who have brought this issue to administration,
12. Program Reviews/Strategic Plan / Mz T asked if everyone has seen the program review templates that came out from the district. Mr. Schloss stated he glanced at it. COA will do their own since the funding is from the college. Merritt and Laney will do a joint PR due to the funding being mostly from student health fees.
13. Blending mind and body care / Jon and Larry are in collaboration of creating a workshop or class around caring for the mind and body. Larry thinks that by creating a workshop , Merritt Health Services can provided fundamental tools, instead of presenting what is available. In the class/workshop students can learn how to feel grounded, the importance of deep breaths, and mediation. Jon suggested asking students, who’s interested in taking a health workshop? Jon also suggested creating a class that starts late October. / What is the status of the blending mind and body workshop?
14. Updates from all / Tham our nurse for Laney Wellness I is no loner with us. We are in the process of hiring a nurse for Laney Wellness I. The PFT union has been working with Mz T on a job description and will be presenting it to Vice Chancellor Orkin and HR in a week or so.
Mr. Williamson III presented onRobert reported that he is currently working of SparkPoint. He is trying to figure out who is the contact person for PCCD. Robert stated that SparkPoint educates people on taxes, setting up accounts, and how to manage their finances.
Mr. asked how can he receive First- Aid supplies and a First- Aid kit. Indra advised him to contact the business office at College of Alameda.
Evan was also curious if Medicat was approved at the September 8, 2015 board meeting. Veronica stated that the minutes have no been posted to the website yet.
John presented his Medi-Cal/ Cal Fresh flier. Glenda requested to add Covered California logo. John responded by stating that due to legal reason, he’s not sure if he is able to use the logo. Indra asked John to think about venues to visit. Also in October would he be willingly to do class presentation at Merritt College. / Mz. T will work on getting more information about Spark point for next meeting.

1. Larry inquiries / Larry had some questions, he wanted to ask Evan and Lisa. First, he wanted to know how many sessions are students allowed for mental health counseling? Lisa and Evan advised Larry that he should allow for 8-10 sessions maximum every semester. If the student needs are high, then you can refer them to other mental health resources.
2. Budget / Indra stated that she trying to follow up about the $75,000 to pay for Merritt College supplies. The last email Indra saw says Sui Song has uploaded it, and $75,000 is available.
Student Health Services is suppose to get 1million?
Indra advised everyone that we are in partnership with Healthy Communities for $200,000 for the 2015-2016 school year, for 2 days a week.
Indra told Larry that is he getting paid from the district. Also that starting in October Larry can begin working on Monday’s. Jon reported that everyone loves Larry at Merritt College. / Veronica will update Larry days and hours in the October Newsletter
