1.Explain in detail how you would isolate one of sprinkler system for routine maintenance. Describe all tests and inspections you would make and how you would return the system to service.

2.State the maintenance that would be necessary on a periodic basis of a simple pneumatic proportional controller.

3.Outline the routine of opening up a set of propulsion machinery for survey. List the checks and tests you would perform for recording purposes.

4.(a) State, with reasons, the causes of fatigue cracking of engineering components.

(b)State, with reasons, how material and design defects can influence fatigue life.

(c)With reference to engine bed plate transverse girders explain how the incidence of fatigue cracking can be minimized.

5.With reference to high pressure steam plant:

(a)State the gases that may be present in the feed system, explaining their presence and their effect.

(b)Explain how the plant is protected from the undesirable effects of the gases in (a).

6.Describe the operation of overhauling a two-stage reciprocating air compressor. Make particular reference to the methods employed to ensure correct running clearance on bearing and cylinders. State the tests necessary before the compressor is put back into service.
