JOB TITLE:BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The main function of the post is to discover and exploit new opportunities from which to deliverbusiness growthfor the wmsnt Group. This will require the ability to identify fresh possibilities, and to establish and manage new strategic relationships with public sector commissioners, other charitable organisations and private sector companies. You will leadonbusiness development, creatingnew initiatives and building enhancementsto current services, and you will drive the diversification and expansion in outputs, to enable the Charitable Group to generate greater income to become more self-sufficient.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a bold new strategy which will help deliver the wmsntGroup’s business development requirementsand generate significant income growth,by identifyingexpansion opportunities and prospective new activities.
  • Conduct detailed research and information collation to support business development and increased market penetration, and to identify trends, news, events and deadlines, so that all possible opportunities can be exploited.
  • Align the strategy with that of the Charity’s objectives, seeking to maximise effectiveness through internal and external collaboration.
  • Work effectively across the organisation to gain greater capacity to identify current and future income opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain effective networks with Local Authorities, private organisations, other charities and other agencies who would benefit from the support of the wmsnt Group.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential / Desirable
Experience /
  • Demonstrable track record of business development in a commercial environment.
  • Proven ability to develop new routes to market, and to identify and develop income generating opportunities.
  • Highly effective in negotiating business agreements.

  • Experience in the commercial transport sector, or in the charitable/social enterprise environment.

Knowledge and understanding /
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Ability to innovate, influence and manage change.
  • Strategic thinker with demonstrable commercial acumen.
  • Understanding of the public procurement processes.
/
  • Masters degree in Business Administration.
  • Understanding of the legislation governing public procurement.

Communications /
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Confident to engage with and influence politicians, local government officers and business leaders.

Personal qualities /
  • Personal presence and authority.
  • Dynamic, persuasive, and passionate about building wmsnt Group’s market presence.

MAIN CHALLENGES OF THE ROLE:

The role requires a self-starter who can quickly develop a broader business modelfor the Charitable Group. The post-holder must be capable ofidentifyinghow to build on the current success of the organisation to generate additional business and thus delivergreater income.

To be successful, the post holder will be a strong influencer and negotiator, will be self-motivated and have a proven track record. You will be a confident and convincing speaker with the ability to think strategically and to shape the environment. You will be able to generate influential contacts and must be capable of radical thinking, and developing new and innovative business plans.

REMUNERATION

The starting salary will be £40,000 per annum plus performance related pay based on a percentage of the additional income generated personally for the Charitable Group.

The post holder will be entitled to an additional £100 per month car users’ allowance plus a mileage allowance and 25 days annual holiday.

The post holder will be entitled to join the wmsnt Group pension and life assurance schemes.
