Sixth Grade Course Requirements for Keyboarding

INTRODUCTION

Keyboarding is a required course for all Sixth Graders at Long Middle School. Successful completion of this course is required for entering seventh grade (passing grade). This is a semester course. The cost is $3.00 which covers paper, keyboard covers, headphones and minor repairs to the computers.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

Students will be able to:

·  Use correcting fingering when keying letters and numbers (Micro Type).

·  Use correct posture at all times.

·  Use touch technique (quiet typing).

·  Demonstrate a speed of 25 words per minute (wpm).

·  Demonstrate proper use of the computer (login, logoff, save and print, opening and closing documents).

·  Use basic keyboarding vocabulary (ex. Monitor, keyboard, hard drive, mouse, save, print, close/open) .

·  Follow oral and written directions.

·  Use safety rules at all times to avoid accidents, especially when handling computer hardware software.

·  Demonstrate proper use of software: Micro Type 4, Microsoft Office 2010 and the Internet.

ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

·  Students are required to use correct keyboarding TECHNIQUES at all times.

Each technique will receive a PASS (100) or FAIL (60) grade.
1.  Sit up straight (with back against the chair).
2.  Proper wrist position (wrist low/palms up not touching table or keyboard).
3.  Eyes on copy (monitor or book).
4.  Fingers curved over home keys (use correct fingering when keying letters & numbers ).
5.  Feet flat on floor.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

·  Students are responsible for all classwork and/or homework assigned.

·  Students are required to take all tests and/or quizzes.

·  Students are required to attend class on a regular basis (daily).

·  Students are required to makeup all work missed when absent.

·  Students are required to follow all class and school rules.

·  Students are required to write/type the Warrior Trails heading on all papers (name/date/class period).
