Grafton High School Math Department Grading Guidelines

There are three categories of assessments:

  • Formative Assessments (0% of grade)
  • Formative assessments are the first time practice on a new standard.
  • Formative assessments will not be part of your academic grade.
  • Formative assignments will be posted on the board and/or on website.
  • All assignments are expected to be done the next day (unless told otherwise).
  • Benchmarks Assessments (40% of grade, 30% of grade for AP courses)
  • Graded homework assignments (paper) that are not first time practice.
  • Homework Checks/“Mini-quiz” once a week covering previous content.
  • MathXL homework - % taken at mid-unit quiz and/or the conclusion of a chapter.
  • Mid-unit quizzes (will be announced at least 1 day in advance).
  • Projects/Reports.
  • Summative Assessments (60% of grade, 70% of grade for AP courses)
  • Unit tests (will be announced at least 2 days in advance).
  • Projects/Reports.
  • (Non-AP classes) Corrective Assessments – Following a summative assessment, a corrective assessment may be taken to replace the original summative assessment score; however, students who earn below a C- are required. The following criteria must be met:
  • Every assignment in the unit must be completed ( ≥ 90% accuracy)before you can start test corrections.
  • Corrections must be made on previous assessments (quizzes & test).
  • Have a conference with your teacher.
  • Additional teacher-determined assignments may be assigned.
  • A parent signature may be required.
  • All of these must be met within a teacher-determined timeline (usually a week).
