Explanatory notes

1This unit standard has been developed for learning and assessment on-job or off-job in a simulated environment.

2All tasks must be carried out in accordance with the Best Practice Guide (BPG) based on:

aquality management systems;

bdesigner’s requirements and manufacturers' operating instructions; andgovernment and local government legislation, regulations, bylaws, Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and New Zealand Standards;

cthe most up to date version of the:

and all subsequent amendments and replacements.

3Range

Equipmentmay include but is not limited to – harness, lanyards, karabiners, slings, ascenders, descenders, rope, pulley wheels, back-up device, helmet,ancillary equipment.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Inspect and maintain height safety equipment.

Evidence requirements

1.1Identify industrial rope access equipment.

1.2Identify manufacturers' maintenance instructions.

1.3Identify manufacturers' maintenance specifications.

1.4Reject damaged and/or worn equipment.

1.5Carry out maintenance procedures in accordance with manufacturers' specifications.

1.6Record equipment inspections in log book.

1.7Record maintenance procedures in log book.
