1. COURSE DESCRIPTION
A comprehensive introduction to the study of law, with specific emphasis on the legal environment of business. Includes the legal process, legal institutions, contracts, agency, torts, employment, consumer protection, government regulation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), along with ethical concerns, current public policy issues and a Bill of Rights introduction.
2. COURSE INFORMATION
This is a University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) transfer course, however, I will not lower the standard that has been established by the Business Division. To receive an A in this course UC and CSU academic ability is expected from you.
3. COURSE GOALS
To introduce you to the nature of law, legal institutions, legal reasoning, and legal ethics. It is understood and expected that you have no experience in law studies.
To teach you specific and useful information about Law in the Business Environment, including contracts, agency, torts, sales, debtor/creditor rights, partnerships, corporations, property, employment law, criminal procedure, consumer law, computer law, and First and Fourteenth AmendmentConstitutional issues.
To teach you strategies to enable you to avoid and/or mitigate various business law problems in both your personal and professional life, and to convince you to consider various alternatives to traditional methods of resolving legal disputes.
To enable you to analyze and understand the legal questions, and legal reasoning involved in past and present significant (and often controversial), legal issues and decisions, in both California and the United States.

5. COURSE POLICIES
Student Conduct:To create a comfortable learning environment for all students, I expect all students enrolled in this class to attend the entire class promptly and consistently. I also expect you to treat other students and the instructor with respect, follow the instructor’s directions for appropriate classroom discussions and participation. I also expect students to avoid disrupting the class in any way.
