First Project Product: Planetary Data Table

Due December 9th (A) and 12th (B)

  • Create a table including nine planets in order with columns for
  • Distance (km)
  • Distance (light-minutes)
  • Distance (astronomical units-AU)
  • Distance scaled
  • Diameter (km)
  • Diameter scaled
  • Period of rotation (day)
  • Period of revolution (year)
  • Density (g/cm3)
  • Surface Temperature

Second Project Product: Planet Board for each Planet

Due December 15th (A) and December 16th (B)

  • One side of the planet board needs to show a circle scaled to the correct size of the planet project for the model (see third project product).
  • One side of the planet board needs to show an accurately colored picture of the planet, as well as the following information:
  • Planet Name
  • What/Who the planet was named after (complete sentences)
  • One fact (complete sentences) about the history of the planet (discovery).
  • One fact (complete sentences) about recent exploration of the planet.

Third Project Product: Scale model of the solar system using the planet boards

Due December 15th (A) and December 16th (B)

  • You must place the nine planet boards at correctly scaled distances from a model sun in a 40 meter long model of the solar system.
  • You must represent the asteroid belt in the model.
  • You must represent a comet and comet motion in the model.
