Rail journeysmean far more than just travelling on railway tracks from A to B: Train stations are the beginning and end of journeys through life in all corners of the Earth, of emotions ranging from joyful anticipation to tragic tears of farewell, of stages of life and innumerable travel encountersthat fire our imagination. There is hardly a James Bondfilm that does not include the suspense of a ride in or on a train to somewhere. And as diverse as the lives, works and adventures that occur on railways in real life is the popular and fascinating hobby of railway modelling with all its technical finesse. And the very finest in model railway equipment and display layoutswill be on show atthe 33rd IMA from 17th to 20th November 2016. International model railway and accessory suppliers -from the quality workshops of small series manufacturers with the highest degree of specialization to the market leaders in the model railway industry - will present their latest products and top brands to a motivated audience of model engineers: modern technology for all gauges, the latest drive systems, track materials for every type of rail, rolling stock, sophisticated model railway software, materials and tools for creative landscape modelling, as well as a large assortment of accessories and practical support for every imaginable model railway project. In addition the show offers its audience of perceptive and discerning modellers - from home and abroad and in all age groups - anextensiveaccompanying program of hands-on activities, presentations and networking possibilities. The many railway layoutsat IMA 2016, in all gauges, creatively modelledwith great attention to detail by private modellers, international clubs and associations, each tell a story with heart, soul and humour - and with a total of 25, there are more than ever before.

All aboard: Will it be the celebratedOrientExpress ora brand new ICE?

Crime stories are hip, and spy thrillers are classic entertainment. So when transported intotrue-to-detail miniature format they supply ideal motives for railway modelling. This year for example you'll find the legendary Orient Express, that mystical location for innumerable tales of diplomats, secret agents, adventurers and profiteers, brought to the tracks by Märklin with seven teak carriages, prototypical brass fittings and illuminated table lamps in the dining car.Though today's secret agent might be in more of a hurry…Maybe he has already been travelling incognito for the past 25 years on the fully air-conditioned330 km/h fast ICE?These elegant express trains have been speeding through Europe since 1991!So of course high-speed traffic celebrates its 25th anniversary at IMA 2016 too.Exhibitors offer all the latest digital technology that the industry has to offer, both for young adventurers and for die-hard model engineering pros, with intuitively operable high-definition touch-screen displays, a wide range of sound functions and so much more.

Live steam locos, those classic beauties

Maybe it's in our genes - that enraptured smile that appears when we see, hear or even smell a steam locomotive? The aroma of coal, steam and hot oil stimulates the nostalgic feeling and it is exactly that special atmosphere in the exhibition hall that enraptures railway buffs and collectors as well as steam railway modellers of all ages. The "Cologne Live Steam Meeting" that takes place in conjunction with IMA is a great event for all steam railway model(ling)fans. And it guarantees four long days of driving fun for steam modellers in the middle of what is usually their hobby's winter break! The gauge IIm module layout (45mm track) for example presents the 1 metre narrow gauge in a scale of 1:22.5 with many splendid locos from various countries.Owners of gauge II railway models who would like to participate can register on the IMA website now!The track plan for Hall 4.2 can is already online.
