PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES FOR PHARMACY STUDENTS

An Interactive 5-Week Course in Hungary

24 June–28 July 2018

Course Description:

The course has been designed for students who study pharmacy at their home university and would be interested in acquiring first-hand professional and personal experiences in a European country with a different culture and healthcare system. The aims of the course include the following:

1.  Facilitate an understanding of the history of the host country, with specific details on the health-care system thereof.

2.  Outline of the societal principles underlying healthcare with special attention to the host country.

3.  Develop an understanding of the host country’s political landscape; both domestic and international, with special emphasis on issues related to healthcare.

4.  Outline the role of pharmacists in the delivery of health-care in the host country within the following areas:

a.  Institutional practice;

b.  Community practice;

c.  Specialty (clinical) practice

5.  Compare and contrast the pharmaco-therapeutic approach to several common disease states of the host country with that practiced in the US.

6.  Describe pharmacy education in the host country, contrasting it with that available in the US.

7.  Outline patient expectations of pharmacy services in the host country.

To achieve these aims, Debrecen Summer School and the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Debrecen, have designed a five-week program including an introduction to Hungarian language and culture, lectures on modern Hungarian history, a range of practices at and visits to pharmacies, laboratories, and hospital departments. In addition to the professional program, students will be welcome to take part in all the cultural events related to the regular Hungarian Language and Culture Summer Course offered by Debrecen Summer School.
