ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Žilina (FCE ZU) does not accept application forms from the applicants who have already studied at the faculty before and were twice or more times unsuccessful in their studies either in any Bachelor’s or Master’s study programme.
FCE ZU does not accept the application forms from the applicants who have been expelled from their studies at FCE ZU due to disciplinary measure for adiscipline and offence under Art.2
of the Disciplinary Code of the Students of the University of Žilina.
Application forms delivered after the specified deadline and e-applications without printed copy delivered to FCE ZU shall be deemed void.
Dean of the faculty may decide on completing the number of students admitted either to Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree study programme to the number of applicants planned. He/She shall admit only those students who have successfully passed admission exams but were not admitted due to capacity of astudy programme.
LANGUAGE SKILLS REQUIREMENT –written and oral Slovak or Czech is required, foreign language skills are welcome. Written and oral English is required for study programme Civil Engineering in English language.
HEALTH CERTIFICATE –the faculty does not require Health Certificate to admit to university studies, application forms without health examination results are accepted.
THE TERMS AND THE FORM OF THE ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR THE BACHELOR‘S DEGREE STUDY PROGRAMME
Basic term of admission to studies up to § 56 section 1 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Universities and on amendments and supplements to certain acts as amended specifies accomplishing secondary education with secondary school leaving certificate. Other terms of admission
to Bachelor’s degree studies at FCE ZU are specified by § 53 of the Universities Act.
Applicants for Bachelor’s degree study programme Buildings will be admitted to studies without admission exams if their study weighted average at secondary school is up to 1.8 inclusive. Those applicants who do not meet the terms for admitting to Bachelor’s degree study programme
of Buildings without admission exams will take written exam in mathematics.
An applicant for Bachelor’s degree study programme Buildings who does not meet the terms
for admitting to studies without admission exams will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
1. Overall study results at secondary school (maximum 90 points)
2. Admission examination results from mathematics at FCE ZU (maximum 60 points)
Score of an applicant applying for the Bachelor’s degree study programme of Buildings at FCE ZU from the academic year 2013/2014 who does not meet the terms for admitting to studies without admission exams:

All applicants for the study programme of Buildings who do not meet the terms for admitting to studies without admission exam and who wish to apply for the studies at FCE ZU are obliged to come on the basis of the invitation of FCE ZU on the due date to the stated room, where they will take their written Mathematics exam (test).
Test score shall be summed up with the number of points for overall study results at secondary school what will create final order stating the remaining number of students admitted to studies of the study programme of Buildings.
Applicants for the studies of the remaining Bachelor’s degree study programmes provided by FCE ZU shall be admitted to studies without admission exams on the basis of their overall study results at secondary school, consistent with the anticipated number of students admitted to the first year of study.
Study programme Civil Engineering in the English language shall be commenced only in case minimum 5 students fulfil the terms of admitting to studies.
Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Žilina does not admit to studies those applicants who have already studied at the faculty before and were twice or more times unsuccessful in their studies either in any Bachelor’s or Master’s study programme.
FCE ZU also does not admit those applicants who have been expelled from their studies at FCE ZU due to disciplinary measure for adiscipline and offence under Art.2 of the Disciplinary Code of the Students of the University of Žilina.
Final decision on the result of the admission procedure shall be made by the Dean of FCE ZU on the basis of recommendation of the appointed admission examination committee.

THE MASTER‘S DEGREE STUDY PROGRAMME
Basic term of admission to studies up to § 56 section 1 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Universities and on amendments and supplements to certain acts as amended specifies accomplishing first degree of university studies. Other terms of admission to Master’s degree studies at FCE ZU are specified by § 57 of the Universities Act.
Only graduates of Bachelor‘s study programme of the same or relative field of study can apply for the admission to Master‘s degree studies.
Study results obtained in Bachelor‘s degree study programme shall establish the criteria for admission to studies – consistent with the anticipated number of students admitted to the 1st year of study.
Final decision on the result of the admission procedure shall be made by the Dean of FCE ZU on the basis of recommendation of the appointed admission examination committee.

Fee payment voucher for the admission procedure shall be sent with an application form,
an applicant’s CV and the certified copies of an applicant’s secondary school result certificates.
Note: In case of filling in an e-application form, there is aneed of aprinted and signed copy to be delivered together with the required enclosures and fee payment voucher – these shall be sent to the above mentioned address within the specified deadline.
Incomplete application form or an application sent after the specified deadline shall be deemed void!
In case of not participating in admission procedure/exam or in case of not being admitted to studies, the faculty does not refund the admission procedure fee!
UNIVERSITY STUDY FEES
These are stated in the Universities Act. Information on the amount for the particular academic year shall be published on the website of the University of Žilina within the specified deadline.
STUDENTS’ ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING
Students admitted to studies are provided the accommodation in accommodation facility
of ZU – Hliny V, pursuant to accommodation capacity, taking into account the distance
from astudent’s residence to the university.
Students have the opportunity to use the catering service in students’ canteens – in the canteen
of Nová Menza or in the snack bars in the area of the University of Žilina.
Accommodation fee:42 EUR – 51 EUR / a month
Catering fee:from 1.62 EUR / per meal
FOREIGN STUDENTS ADMISSION
Foreign students study as self-payers (remittance of study fees). The amount of study fees
for the foreign students for the particular academic year is specified in the separate directive
and is published on the website of the University of Žilina.
Study fees are not paid by the inhabitants of the countries of the EU, foreigners with residence
in an EU member state and inhabitants stated in § 92 section 9 of the Universities Act.
Applicants without fluent knowledge of Slovak or Czech language are required to pass language training course (there is apossibility to attend the course at the University of Žilina).
Applicants from the Czech Republic can submit application form valid in the Czech Republic.
BACHELOR‘S DEGREECAREER PROSPECTS
GEODESY AND CARTOGRAPHY
Graduate students are highly qualified specialists in the field of geodesy and cartography.
The three years period provides comprehensive study in the first degree of higher education.
After graduating, their main application of studies is in surveying and construction companies;
in working for real estate cadastre offices and Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre Authority
of the Slovak Republic They have the ability to create graphical sources and do necessary calculations for projecting civil engineering structures and to observe or stake projected structures.
BUILDINGS
Graduates acquire comprehensive first degree of higher education in the field of Buildings.
After passing the core subjects of Building Structures, Building Physics, various architectural
and static disciplines, Ateliers and awide-range of elective courses, they may profile themselves
to practical problem solving in designing and constructing new buildings. They can apply their knowledge in design organizations and construction companies oriented to construction, maintenance and renovation of buildings.
CIVIL ENGINEERING
Students shall acquire knowledge in the field of designing and implementing structural
and transport engineering structures and are led to creative development of fundamental theoretical knowledge, to essential issue understanding as well as to dealing with flexible organizational and technological tasks while respecting the principles of structural reliability
and knowledge for designing details. Self-activity, self-assertion, understanding of principles
and fundamentals of correct and substantive solution, use of information technologies for designing structures and for optimising calculation methods are encouraged. Graduating in Bachelor’s degree programme is the preparation for the consecutive studies in the Master’s degree programme as well as for the future practice. Graduates can apply their knowledge in the field
of constructions by designing and constructing bearing structures of buildings as well as transport and structural engineering structures and also in the particular professions in the field of buildings. They can apply in the state civil administration, local civil administration, in environmental authorities and in the organisations performing maintenance of transport and engineering structures.
TECHNOLOGY AND CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
Students acquire fundamental knowledge from the area of technologies, economics
and implementation of structural and transport engineering structures and design of buildings. Graduates are highly qualified professionals in the field of civil engineering, particularly focused
on civil engineering structures, and they can apply their knowledge in the state civil administration, local civil administration, in environmental authorities and in the organisations performing maintenance of civil engineering structures.
MASTER’S DEGREE CAREER PROSPECTS
RAILWAY ENGINEERING
Graduates can apply themselves in the area of planning and designing transport civil structures, in preparation of extensive investment constructions, in structural engineering, in building production, in state and private sector, in management and maintenance of rail infrastructure, in designing agencies, and in building companies oriented to railway engineering. After acquiring necessary practical experience they can apply themselves in managing positions, in business area, in research, and in secondary and higher education system. Graduates can start running their own business on the basis of the Certificate of Trade Authorisation or as authorised chartered civil engineers after passing exams in front of the Board of Examiners of the Slovak Chamber of Civil Engineers.

BEARING STRUCTURES OF BUILDINGS
Professional profile of agraduate meets all the legislative requirements for the pursuits in the area of design and implementation of buildings with the focus on their bearing structures. By graduating in this degree of higher education graduates are ready to enter the labour market. They shall apply themselves as independent professionals – specialists – in the area of statics and designing civil and structural engineering structures. They can work as members of creative designing teams,
in construction supply organisations, in education system as well as in research. Graduates can run business on the basis of the Certificate of Trade Authorisation or they can become
an authorised chartered civil engineer after acquiring necessary practice and passing exams
in front of the Board of Examiners of the Slovak Chamber of Civil Engineers.
ROADWAY ENGINEERING
Graduates are able to analyse, design, and maintain civil and structural engineering structures,
and to carry out research with high level of creativity and independence. They find their application in the area of planning and designing, as designers, in preparation of extensive investment structures, in structural engineering, in building production and in management and maintenance of transportation infrastructure (roads, highways, urban communications, and airports). They can be employed in designing agencies, in investment companies, in building firms, and in state
and private sector. After acquiring necessary practical experience they can apply themselves
in managing positions, in business area, in research, as well as in secondary and higher education system. Agraduate of this study programme can run business on the basis of the Certificate
of Trade authorisation or as an authorised chartered civil engineer after passing exams in front
of the Board of Examiners of the Slovak Chamber of Civil Engineers.
CIVIL ENGINEERING STRUCTURES
Graduates are able to analyse, design, construct, build and manage structural engineering structures of transport and underground constructions. They are prepared for the research activities with the adequate level of creativity and independence that can be deepen and extended by further studies. The content of the study programme focuses mostly on acquiring knowledge from the theoretical analysis of bearing structures with the emphasis on bridges and buildings which will allow graduates to design reliable and effective bearing structures of line transport constructions. Graduates apply themselves in the area of planning and designing, as designers,
in preparation of extensive investment structures, in structural engineering, in building production and in management and maintenance of transportation infrastructure. They can run business
on the basis of the Certificate of Trade authorisation or become authorised chartered civil engineers after given practical experience and passing exams in front of the Board of Examiners of the Slovak Chamber of Civil Engineers.
TECHNOLOGY AND CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
Graduates are highly qualified specialists in the area of technology, management and economy
of buildings, testing, quality management, and performance management with particular focus
on transport constructions. Graduates of this Master’s degree programme are self-reliant
in preparing and managing construction of complex civil and transport engineering structures,
in optimising construction procedures and introducing new technologies into construction processes. They have the ability to manage abuilding company. They apply themselves in the area of planning and managing investment projects, including project finances and marketing. Graduates of this study programme can run business on the basis of the Certificate of Trade authorisation or become authorised chartered civil engineers after given practical experience
and passing exams in front of the Board of Examiners of the Slovak Chamber of Civil Engineers.
