Cucamonga Wilderness Permit

Visitors are allowed to camp anywhere in the Cucamonga Wilderness as long ad these basic rules are observed:
• Posses a valid Visitor’s Permit & Fire Permit
• Carry a shovel for burying human waste
• Stay on trails a do not cut switchbacks
• Cany out all refuse
• Camp 100 ft. away from trails, meadows, and water
• Protect water resources from contamination
• Keep domestic animals leashed and under control
at all times; better yet, we strongly recommend leaving them at home
• Use only chemical stoves
• Travel in groups of 12 or fewer
• Leave no trace of your visit, take only photographs
PER MIT REQUIRED- A Visitor’s Permit is required to enter the Cucamonga Wilderness. It is free to anyone who will follow the basic rules intended to protect both the visitor and the Wilderness resource. A separate permit is needed for each trip, but only one permit is required for the group.
AN ADVENTURE PASS IS REQUIRED FOR PARKING!
HOW TO OBTAINA PERMIT - Wilderness permits are issued at Ranger Stations near your point of entry. To obtain your permit by mail, complete the application below and mail to one of the addresses to the right. Be sure to request an itinerary in case your first choice is not available. Requests for permits may be made up to three months in Advance of your planned start date. Allow 10 to 14 days for return mail and please cancel your reservations if you cannot keep it. A Wilderness map is available for $6.00.Information on fire restrictions can be obtained at one of the offices listed on the column to the right.
SAFTY: Plan ahead because you are responsible for your own safety! Weather can be unpredictable in the wilderness so be sure to be prepared for extremes and the unexpected. Let someone know your itinerary and who to contact if you do not return when planned.
ACCESS: You may enter the Cucamonga Wilderness from the following trailheads (See map on back):
Baldy Notch Trailhead (North): Ride the chair lift to Baldy Notch or hike 3.5 miles up the Baldy Notch access road from Manker Flats.
Big Tree Trailhead (South): Enter via Joe Elliot Camp off of Forest Road lN34.
Middle Fork Trailhead (East): Enter via Middle Fork Road 2N58 west of Lytle Creek.
Icehouse Trailhead (West): Enter via Icehouse Canyon out of Mt. Baldy Village.
WATER: Even though mountain water often appears to be clean, clear, and safe. It should always be treated before drinking or used for cooking! When using untreated backcountry water for any reason, you do so at your own risk
