PROCEDURES FOR ACCESSING THE EATING DISORDERS TREATMENT TEAM

  1. Providers at Health Services, Counseling Services, and the Wellness Team dietician may refer students directly to the team after an initial assessment in their respective offices. If others are concerned that a student may have an eating disorder, they can refer the student to Counseling Services, Health Services, or the dietician. Those providers will then determine whether the coordinated care provided by the team is warranted.
  1. Students are not mandated to the treatment team. However, in discussing the purpose of the team with students, providers at Health Services and Wellness Educationshould provide them with the Eating Disorders Treatment Team release form. The release form is not needed for Counseling Services providers because our Informed Consent explains that we may confer with Health and Wellness Education providers. However, Counseling Services providers can provide students with an “Eating Disorder Treatment Team” informational sheet.
  1. The team will meet bi-weekly.
  1. Referring providers may choose to attend the team meeting. If a student is a varsity athlete, the team athletic trainer may also be present at the team meeting. The medical provider, counselor, or dietician will discuss this with the student before a decision is made to include the trainer. This information is included on the Eating Disorders Treatment team release form or the Counseling Services general release form.
  1. Please do the following by the Friday prior to the next scheduled team meeting:
  2. Health Services Providers: Contact Dr. Mary Stock to provide the student’s UB person number, diagnosis, symptoms, and specific consultation needs. Also please indicate whether you will be attending the meeting.
  • Counseling Services Providers: Contact team leader to provide the student’s UB person number, diagnosis, symptoms, and specific consultation needs. Also please indicate whether you will be attending the meeting.
  1. If the referring provider does not attend the meeting, your contact person (team leader) will provide you with a summary of the treatment issues (medical, nutrition, psychological), update on progress, and recommendations that resulted from the consultation.
  1. Record keeping
  2. The staffing that occurs at the team meetings will be treated as consultation and treatment planning for Counseling Services and therefore be added to the client’s record. Medical providers and the dietician will keep fairly limited records of the mental health concerns of the students in their official chart.
