A RESOLUTION honoring former state representative Marvin Cornett for his dedicated service to the citizens of Lincoln, Garrard, and Jessamine Counties.
WHEREAS, Marvin Cornett was born in Ashe County, North Carolina, on August 3, 1915, and moved to Broughtontown, Kentucky when he was five years old; and
WHEREAS, Marvin Cornett received his entire primary and secondary education through the Broughtontown educational system; and
WHEREAS, Marvin Cornett attended Eastern Kentucky University and attended law school at Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tennessee, and later transferred to the University of Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, even though Marvin Cornett did not complete law school at the University of Kentucky, he was allowed to take the state bar exam where he received the highest score among the forty individuals taking the exam; and
WHEREAS, Marvin Cornett began practicing law in Stanford, Kentucky in 1942 and practiced law there for thirty-six years; and
WHEREAS, Marvin Cornett was elected to represent the people of Lincoln County for three terms: 1942-1943, 1944-1945, and 1952-1953 and served under three different governors; and
WHEREAS, Marvin Cornett served as the Stanford city attorney for six years and as a commonwealth attorney for the 13th judicial district representing the counties of Lincoln, Garrard, and Jessamine for a two-year period; and
WHEREAS, Marvin Cornett was elected district judge representing the counties of Lincoln, Garrard, and Jessamine in 1978 and continued serving in that capacity for twelve years until his retirement in 1990; and
WHEREAS, Marvin Cornett is an active member of the Stanford Baptist Church and has served his community well by being a member of the advisory board of the Harvey Helm Library, serving on the advisory council for comprehensive care, and currently serving on the Buffalo Springs Cemetery Board, the Logan's Fort Foundation, and the Lincoln County Education Foundation;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby honor Marvin Cornett for his dedicated service to the citizens of Lincoln, Garrard, and Jessamine Counties. He has been an inspiration within the communities for over eighty years, and we wish him immeasurable success in all future endeavors.
Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Marvin Cornett.
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Honorable Marvin Cornett, 302 High Street, Stanford, KY 40484-1308.
