In this relaxed 2 day workshop Annette will show you some quick ideas for basic colourful patchwork made on the sewing machine. The following day Annette will demonstrate machine quilting and give lots of tips on finishing your work of Art!
On this workshop you will find out how easy patchwork can be! The rotary cutter, ruler and mat have revolutionized the making of patchwork and you will be making a small “scrappy quilt” lap quilt using these new skills. A lap quilt looks really good made in bright colours, or if you prefer calmer colours that is fine too!
Once the skills of cutting fabric have been mastered, Annette will show you some “quick piecing” techniques which is where fabrics are sewn quickly together on the sewing machine, making patchwork, quick, fast and easy.
Once the patchwork quilt top has been made, different quilting techniques will be discussed and hand and machine quilting will be demonstrated.
Please bring along fabrics you would like to work with and Annette will have a basket of fabrics you can purchase

  • 1.5 metre piece of wadding – I will have some with me
  • Basic sewing kit including pins, scissors and machine threads

  • Walking foot or sometimes called an even feed foot for the sewing machine – please see your sewing machine dealer
  • Chalk marker

*If you would prefer to hand quilt, you do not need to bring a sewing machine, but you will need to bring a reel of hand quilting thread [it is thicker and stronger than sewing machine thread] to match your fabric.
