JOB TITLE:Shop Manager

BASE:Kendal Retail Shop

DEPARTMENT:Retail

REPORTING TO:Senior Retail Operations Manager and Head of Retail

Overall purpose of the role:

Our brand new Charity Shop in Kendal requires a Shop Manager to be responsible for theday-to-day management of the shop and for maximising revenue to support activities at the shop.

It is essential you will have the skills to manage the EPOS till system and understand profit and loss of the shop, ensure legal and health & safety compliance in line with the Organisation’s policies & procedures, and help to maintain optimum levels of volunteers and stock to meet shop targets.

You should drive and achieve the agreed Key Performance Indicators and performance objectives and ensure a high level of service is provided at all times.

You will normally work 35 hours per week over 7 days on a rota basis and with a part time Assistant Manager to support you.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for managing your Assistant Manager and volunteers
  • Manage rotas for Assistant Manager and volunteers two weeks in advance.
  • Manage and oversee pricing, coding, effective processing of stock, stock density and rotation.
  • Manage the team to maximise income from Gift Aid on donated items.
  • Inspire team to provide a great customer service and donor experience attracting new supporters on a daily basis.
  • Oversee and manage a good and creative standard of display, windows and merchandising at all times.
  • Drive recruitment and maintain a suitable level of volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the shop.
  • Act as a role model for volunteers, ensuring quality of training and Charity standards are met. Appropriately and consistently assess the skills andpotential of the volunteer team, ensuring their value is recognised.
  • Display a positive team spirit through attendance at regular staff meetings
  • Promote work of North West Air Ambulance and liaise with colleagues to promote events to staff, volunteers and customers.
  • Assist with opening of other shops, cover other shops and support operations as and when required.
  • Drive and initiate marketing campaigns, stock generation and sales promotions to increase sales.
  • Ensure that shop meets targets set and motivate your team to support this.
  • Run reports from EPOS to understand the shop profit and loss;maximize sales and profits to ensure weekly targets are met.
  • Delegate responsibility and work as appropriate.
  • Overall management of shop bank takings, using agreed bank procedures.

Health and Safety

  • Ensure the shop and people adhere to health and safety procedures and regulations set out in the Health and Safety Policy and Handbook.
  • Make sure all shop equipment is in good working order and that items are PAT tested within timeframes.
  • Report any property issues or defects to the Head of Retail.

Other

  • To consistently demonstrate the NWAA core values in all interactions with colleagues, volunteers and supporters.
  • The responsibilities are indicative but not exhaustive. As the role develops the requirements of the post may change.
  • The post holder shall attend regular meetings.

Conditions of service

Salary:£16,098.00 per annum

Hours of work:35 hours per week, 5 days per week (working days between Monday to Sunday, shift rota produced two weeks in advance)

Annual Leave: 25 working days in a full leave year (1 April to 31 March), excluding statutory bank holidays.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential / Desirable
Physical / Have the ability to stand/walk around for most of the day.
Experience / Experience of recruiting and managing people.
Knowledge of Health & Safety within the Retail sector.
Experience of budgets and meeting targets.
Creative with merchandise.
Managing and motivating people
Managing a rota and resource / EPOS management and running reports.
Gift Aid knowledge
Skills / Cash handling and full stock management in a small busy team.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
I.T. literate in Word and Excel
Personal Attributes / Abilities / Must hold a full driving licence, and own a car containing insurance for business use. Part of your role may require for you to travel to other charity sites.
Ability to manage conflicting priorities.
Open, adaptable, honest and reliable.
Flexible approach to meet the demands of the workload.
Strong problem solving skills.
