School TennisWorkshop
General Information:
The workshop is a 3 hour training designed to equip physical educator as well as out of school time providers with the necessary confidence and skills to run an effective school and/or extracurricular tennis unit. A USTA Northern representative administers the in-serviceand supplies all necessary equipment. Attendees actively participate in a variety of fun games and drills that can be used with beginning tennis players of all ages. Upon completion of the workshop, participants are eligible for a copy of the 10th addition curriculum*, laminated station signs*, matching equipment grants*, access to program grants**, discount tennis equipment, sample transition ball and access to on-line curriculum.Workshop host will receive a free equipment package* (see below).

Setting up the Training:
To organize a workshop in your area, contact Tony Stingleyat USTA Northern (952) 358-3289 or (800) 536-6982 ext.289, e-mail . North Dakota/South Dakota contact Carolyn Kramer (701) 238-1515, . As theworkshophost for your school district/community, you must:
- Recruit at least 12uniquephysical education teachers or out of school time instructors or volunteers to attend the workshop (preferably more to representan actual class size). The 12 attendees must service different students in the schools or out-of-schooltime programs. If you have trouble finding 12unique attendees, consider opening your training to nearby districts.
- Reserve a 3 hour block of time in a gym, cafeteria or blacktop area at your school
- Pick a date wisely. Scheduled teacher workshop or early release days are preferred to maximize attendance.
As stated above, upon completion of the workshop, schools will be eligible for curriculum, grants for out of school time activities, matching equipment grants and discount tennis equipment.
Workshop host, that are organization members and meet the 12 unique participant requirement, will receive a equipment package that consist of 1-Roll of Tennis Barrier Tape, 30 racquets, 24 ea. of the foam and redfelt balls, Tennis Skillastics Kit ($600 value).
Important Notes:
- Schedule your workshopdate with the USTA Northern office well in advance. Districts that have not had an USTA workshop within the last three years will be given priority.
- Workshops are 3 hours.
- Equipment discounts and matching grants are available to all organization member schools.
- If your building has extra-curricular tennis activities, it is expected that the equipment will be shared.
- Cost of an organization membership for your school is $35 per year, $100 (3 year), $155 (5 year). Membership is optional with additional benefits to your school.
