INTRODUCTION:THISSHOWISSPONSOREDBYTHEFRIOCOUNTYYOUTHCOMMERCIALHEIFER SHOWANDSALEANDISINNOPARTASSOCIATEDWITHTHEFRIOCOUNTYJUNIORLIVESTOCK SHOW,THEREFORE4-HANDFFAMEMBERSCANSELLINTHISPROGRAMASWELLASINTHEFRIO COUNTYJUNIORLIVESTOCKSHOWPREMIUMAUCTION.EXHIBITORSMUSTABIDEBYTHEGENERAL RULESOFTHEFRIOCOUNTYYOUTHCOMMERCIALHEIFERSHOWANDSALEANDTHEGENERAL RULESANDREGULATIONSOFTHEFRIOCOUNTYJUNIORLIVESTOCKSHOW.

1.PenofopenheifersmustbeweighedandtaggedonSeptember14,2013,from8:00a.m.to 10:00a.m..Iftheexhibitorisunabletomakethe10:00a.m.deadlineforanunforeseen emergency,contactmustbemadetothecommitteechairmanandaquorumof committeemenwilltakeappropriateaction.Heifersmustbecalf hoodvaccinatedfor brucellosisbyfinalweighin.Allentryformsandfeesaredueatweighin.Heiferswillbe weighedatPearsallLivestockAuctionunlessotherwisenoted.Entryfeesof$20.00perpen aredue at weigh in.The weigh in is a part of the sifting process.

2.Penofthreeheifersconstituteapen.Onlythreeheiferswillbeeligibletobeshown.Each exhibitormayhaveonealternate,nottoexceedfour(4)heifersperexhibit,includingthe alternate,ofwhichonlythreearetoshow.Theexhibitormustownallheifersandonlyone pen is allowed per exhibitor.

3.A minimum average weight of 400 pounds and amaximumaverage weight of700poundsper head willbe allowedatweighin.Heifers will be weighed bythe pen, and must have in place2 middle temp incisors.

4.Animalsmay begrazed orfed, andwillbe judged asreplacementheifers.No nursecows willbeallowed.Eachheifermustgainanaverageofonepoundperdayfromtag-intoshow date, orwill be sifted. The number of days will be announced by committee personnel on check-in date.

5.Check-intimefortheFrioCountyJuniorLivestockShowwillbeonThursday,January23, 2014between4pmand 6pm.Exhibitorsmustprovide proof of calf hoodvaccinationwith thematthetimeofcheck-inattheFrioCountyJuniorLivestockShow.Heiferswillbe pennedimmediatelyuponarrival.HeiferswillbepalpatedonFridayJanuary24,2014from 8:00-10:00a.m.Heiferpensthatarepalpatedwillbeatexhibitor’sexpenseandexhibitor mustbepresent.(SeeFrioCountyJr.LivestockShowRulesforsiftinginfoSectionD.)

6.Heiferjudgingscores,recordbookjudgingscoresandinterviewscoreswillaffectthefinal placing.Theheiferjudgingwill begin Friday,January24,2014at1:00p.m. Theheifers willbejudgedforuniformityandquality.Recordbooksaredueatnoon, Friday, January 24, 2014tothecommitteechairman.JudgingwillstartFriday at 1 p.m. Record books MUSTbeondisplayuntilafterthecommercialheifersale.Interviews willstartat 8 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2014. Interviewswillbebasedontheexhibitor’s knowledge of all areas of his or herexhibit.

7.Itistheresponsibilityofeachexhibitortocleanhis/herpenandalleydaily. Thechairmenwillassign pens atcheck in on Thursday, January 23, 2014, beginning at 4 p.m.

8.Exhibitors should read andunderstand the official Rules andRegulations ofthe Frio County Junior Livestock Show. Unless otherwise stated in these rules, the rules covered under the Rules and Regulations of the Frio County Junior Livestock Showwill prevail. Each exhibitor is responsible for knowing the schedule of events. If an exhibitor does not plan to show, he or she must notify the Frio County Junior Livestock Show Office.

9.Twoindividualsthatareoperatorsinthecowcalfindustrywillperformjudging.Judges willbe soughtthathave nopreference toany exhibitor.Eachjudgewillscore eachof the threecategoriesasfollows:Heiferswillcountfor50%ofthescorewith50pointsbeingthe best.RecordBookwillcountfor25%ofthescorewith25pointsbeingthebest.Interviews willcountfor25%ofthescorewith25pointsbeingthebest.Judgesshouldmakeevery effortnottoscoreanexhibitorwiththesamescoretoavoidatie.Judgesscoreswillbe addedandtheoverallhighestscorewillplacefirstandsoforthdowntolastplace.Inthe event ofa tie, thebestinterview willserve as atie-breaker.Second tie-breaker goes tothe judges. (Judges’ criteria for scoring will be included with the rules.)

10.AllpensofHeifersarerequiredtosell.Ifananimal(s)islosttheexhibitorisnoteligibleto compete forGrandorReservein theshow,but will beallowedto interviewand sales their animal(s).

11.Pens will be sold times the moneyand maynot be split bythe buyer.

12.PenswillbeawardedGrandChampion,ReserveGrandChampion,followedbythirdplace throughthefinalnumberofexhibits.GrandandReservewillreceivebannersandbuckles. A plaque will be awarded forbest interview and best record book.

13.Class will beopento all openheiferscommercialorregistered.Exhibitorsareresponsible fortransfersonregisteredHeifers.RegisteredHeiferpapersmustbeprovidedatfinalweigh in.

14.FinalweighinwillbeThursday,January23,2014,theHeiferswillbeweighedatthe PearsallLivestockAuction.AllHeifersaretobeguaranteedopenbyalicensedveterinarian. OnlyvirginheiferscancompeteforGrandandReserveChampionplacings.Siftingforthe showwillbeenforcedatthattime.Ifthepenof4heifersdoesnotmakethebaseweightgain of 1 pound perday, then each heifer will be re-weighedindividuallyto formapenof three removingthe lightest heifer.

15.Onlyopen heifers will be sold. Pen less than three will be placed last on the saleorder.

If less than three heifers in pen score will be a zero.

16.Rule translation and evaluatingemergencysituations willbe interpreted byaquorumof committee members.

Two neutral parties will be appointed bycommittee memberto previewthe record books for accuracyand required content BEFOREthe books are given to the judge or judges. The judge or judges will be given a pre-filled form to scorethe record book after theinitial deductions are made.

Since there is an award for “Best Record Book”, it shall be up to the judges or judges to determine this award.

Each judgewill be given an InterviewEvaluation Form with the Exhibitor’s name and scoring rubric. After theinterview thejudges will total their score forthe exhibitor and final scorewill be determined bytakingthe total of the interviews and dividingit by two.

Each interview will be limited to 5 minutes.
