International Epidemiology Training Fellowship

We are offering a one-year International Epidemiology Training Fellowships for recent graduates in epidemiology and biostatistics who are interested in gaining experience in international public health by working directly with epidemiologists, scientists and public health practitioners from Central America and the CDC Global AIDS Program (CDC/GAP).
We are recruiting highly motivated individuals who plan a career in international public health and are looking for an opportunity to increase their skills in epidemiology and biostatistics in service of public health in an international and HIV/AIDS context. More specifically, we are looking for individuals with:
· MPH, MSc or PhD in epidemiology or biostatistics
· Spanish language ability (intermediate or beyond)
· English language ability (intermediate or beyond)
· Excellent writing and analysis skills
· Some international experience (significant travel overseas or some period spent living outside their home country)
· Some HIV/AIDS experience
· Proven ability to work in a team setting
· Superior computer skills (including all Microsoft programs and at least 1 statistical analysis program, such as SAS, STATA or SPSS)
· Willingness to travel
Fellows will be placed into the HIV/AIDS training positions, and will work at the UVG/CDC office in Central America. Fellows will be assigned a mentor from among the faculty of the UVG or CDC staff posted in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Fellows will work with their mentors to refine their job descriptions, develop work plans, monitor progress, and prepare materials for publications and presentations. Fellows will be required to present at least 1 seminar, participate in at least 1 surveillance project and will assist in preparing at least 1 article for publication.

· Annual salary of $30,000 for MPH or MSc graduates and $35,000 for PhDs

Who we are:
The Center for Health Studies of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala has collaborated with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on public health in Guatemala and Central America since the late 1960s. Currently, under a new 5-year cooperative agreement, we are managing projects in emerging infections, influenza, HIV/AIDS, onchocerciasis and malaria.
What we do:
We work in a variety of areas in public health: developing capacity within the Ministries of Health, conducting surveillance for emerging infections, evaluating public health interventions, developing disease prevention programs.
Where we are located:
The offices of the CDC/UVG collaboration are on the campus of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala in zone 15 of Guatemala City.
