Context:
The Canadian Manufactured Housing Institute’s (CMHI’s) Building Innovation Forum takes place October 15, 2015 at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum.
The opening presentation at the Forum will be a discussion of the classroom and training space design project at CASM that CMHI facilitated with Algonquin College students earlier this year.
The Coordinator of the Green Architecture program at Algonquin College and his students will make a presentation at the Forum on October 15, 2015 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.
This year, CMHI is holding its Forum in conjunction with the Canadian Home Builders’ Association and special guests from the International Housing Association. CMHI hopes to attract approximately 150 delegates to the event, including members of the building industry, architects, engineers, government officials, investors, and business analysts from across Canada and globally. The Forum will also include a national student program highlighting new research and innovation in architecture, engineering and trades. Students are being selected through research chairs and deans from educational institutions offering programs related to prefabricated construction to attend and showcase their work.
The objectives of the Forum include the following:
- Bring together manufactured and traditional building industry members, students, educators, researchers, government representatives and other stakeholders and provide them with a high-quality educational, business and networking event;
- Foster domestic and international cooperation and information exchange;
- Promote awareness and adoption of new techniques, technologies and products that could further increase the quality and environmental performance of Canada’s homes and buildings;
- Identify and promote education, training and employment opportunities for youth, and encourage young people pursuing careers in building design and construction; and,
- Demonstrate the economic impact of, and growing market opportunities for, the industry in Canada and international markets.
You are of course welcome to attend any or all of the Forum activities listed below in the scenario.

CSTM DESIGN PROJECT
I do not know what stage you are at with the retrofit design for the new building for the Canada Science and Technology Museum (CSTM), but since it is the Canada Science and Technology Museum, I am really hoping that the design will showcase Canada’s leading edge construction science and technology. I think the project presents a great demonstration and learning opportunity, as well as an opportunity for collaboration with industry, educators and students. Please don’t hesitate to contact me by telephone at 613-563-3520 or by return email if you would like to discuss.
