SHEET NO-2 OF5

SPECIFICATION FOR STAINLESS STEEL TUBES FOR

3-PHASE A.C. FREIGHT LOCOMOTIVE (WAG-9 LOCO)

1. SCOPE:

This specification prescribes the requirements for seamless stainless steel Tubings for general corrosion resisting service including transmission of compressed air for 3 Phase electric Locomotive, operating air pressure being as high as 11.5 Kg/ Cm² (normal air pressure is 10 Kg /Sq.cm).

2.SCOPE OF SUPPLY:

The required dimensions of tubes and their respective quantities/sets (loco) have been shown in at annexure-1. The tubes shall be supplied in lengths of 6(six) meters and part thereof for the remaining lengths, if any.

OR

Tubes length is to be worked out from CLW’s drawing no IB-071-00058. The tubes are to be cut / bent as shown in the referred drawings and each drawing to be approved by CLW before supply. The size of tubes used as per annexure-I.

3.CLIMATIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

3.1Maximum Atmospheric Temperature: Under Sun: 70º C

In Shade: 50 ºC

3.2Humidity: 100% saturation during Rainy Season.

3.3Reference Site Conditions: (i) Ambient Temp. Max. 47ºC Min. 0ºC

(ii) Humidity: 60%

(iii) Altitude: 160 mtrs. above sea level.

3.4Rainfall:Very heavy in certain areas. The locomotive will be designed to permit its running of

10km /hr. in flood water level of 102 mm above rail level.

SHEET NO-3 OF5

3.5Atmosphere during Hot Weather: Extremely dusty in desert terrain in certain areas.

3.6Coastal Area: Locomotive and equipment will be designed to work in coastal areas in humid and salt laden atmosphere.

3.7Vibration: The equipment, sub-system and their mounting arrangement in service as specified in corresponding the shocks encountered in service as specified in corresponding I.E.C. publications unless otherwise stated.

4.STANDARDS:

4.1The tubes to be supplied shall be as per the specification ASTM A269.

5. GENERAL AND TECHNICAL DATA

5.1 Name of Material: Seamless annealed stainless steel tubes.

5.2 Grade : As Gr. 304 conforming ASTM A 269 or equivalent with hardness Rockwell Rb90 or less.

5.3 i) Bend Test :The finished tube shall be capable of withstanding the bend test without showing any sign of fracture or failure .the tube shall not be filled for the test the bend test shall be performed on one tube out of 30(Thirty) tubes or part thereof for each heat.

ii) The tubes shall be capable of being bent-cold without crack and or collapsing thro 900round or the former having a radius at the bottom of the groove equal to 3 (three) times the outside diameter.

NOTE: When more than one heat is involved, the flaring, chemical composition and hardness test requirements shall apply to each heat..

5.4. Chemical composition: The tubes shall conform to the requirements as to chemical composition as

prescribed in Table of ASTM A 269.

5.5 Heat treatment : Refer to Clause no. 6 of the specification ASTM A 269.

5.6Product Analysis: As described in clause no 8.1, 8.2, 8.3 of the specifications ASTM A269

SHEET NO.- 4 OF5

( Also referred to table 2 of ASTM A269).

5.7 Hardness Requirements : As described in Clause No.11 of the specification ASTM A269.

5.8Tenderers shall indicate in their offer whether the tubing’s offer s offered cold finished or hot finished or can be both at thechoice of the purchaser.

5.9INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE:

The test as indicated in clause 9,10,S1,S2,S4 of spec ASTM A 269 is to be conducted for each lot of

tubes .

The above test maybe carried out at in house facility of the manufacturer. In this case

the test shall be witnessed by CLW representative.

However firm may submit relevant valid test certificate in compliance of above test requirement from well recognized test labs. Such labs should have preferred accreditation from national/international accreditation bodies. Such certificate will be accepted after genuinely verifications

6. 0Certificates of the results of all the tests performed in accordance with specifications duly signed by the firm. Authorized representative should be sent along with the supply.

6.1 Certificate of performance guarantee.

7.MARKING:

7.1 Each Tube to be marked suitably to identify

i) Grade of Material (ii) Cold finished / Hot finished (iii) Outside diameter (iv) Wall thickness (v) Name of the manufacturer (vi) Manufacturing date (vii) Batch / Lot No. (viii) Heat No.

SHEET NO.-5 OF 5

8.GUARANTEE / DEFFECT LIABILITY:

8.1 The manufacturer is required to guarantee the material and satisfactory performance for a period of 5 (five) years

9.PACKING DELIVERY:

The tubes shall be suitably packed with polythene sheet in such a manner to avoid movements, rubbing and damage of their ends. Each package shall be of convenient mass for easy handling. All tube ends shall be suitably plugged with plastic.
