ORCID Updater

The ANU ORCID Updater System has been implemented to maintain researcher’s ORCID profiles. It stores some basic information about a researcher and their publications. The system allows the user to select to create a new ORCID, link their account with an ORCID and to add and update publications in their ORCID account.

ORCID Updater Security Model

At this time the system only allows users to view their own ORCID records and to perform actions on their own account. The user is required to log in to access this information.

·  Ability to add publications to a user’s ORCID profile

·  Ability to update publications in a user’s ORCID profile

Logging in

To log into the system you must have a valid ANU university ID and password. Click the Login link in the top left corner.

Enter your username (ANU university ID) and password and click the Login button.

When logged in your screen should automatically direct to the page with your profile information.

Create ORCID record

If a user does not have an existing ORCID record they can use the ORCID Updater to create a new record from using the information held in their local profile in the ORCID updater.

To do so click the “Create Orcid Profile” link.

After the ORCID profile is created it will return the user to the profile page and the newly created ORCID identifier will be displayed on the page along with the rest of their profile information. ORCID will also send the user an email about their account creation.

If there is a problem when creating the record instead of returning the user to the profile page an error message will be displayed. Often this will occur if the user already has an ORCID. To verify if this is the issue please go to http://orcid.org/ and login to the system using your ORCID identifier and password.

Link ORCID record

If a user has an existing ORCID record they can link/import their ORCID identifier to the ANU ORCID Updater system via clicking the “Link Existing Orcid Profile” link.

This will then redirect you to the ORCID Authentication site at which point you will need to authenticate with your credentials.

After logging in to ORCID it will request to access to Read limited information from your ORCID Record.

If “Authorize” is clicked the system will then send your ORCID to the ORCID Updater application. The user will then return the user to the profile page and their ORCID identifier will be displayed on the page along with the rest of their profile information.

Post ORCID Identifier Creation/Linking

This will then redirect you to the ORCID Authentication site at which point you will need to authenticate with your ORCID username and password.

After “Authorize” is clicked the publications will be sent to the users ORCID profile, those publications that did not previously exist will be added to the profile. The user will then be returned to the profile information page.
