Data for Term 2
Mrs. Shiroma, Administrator of Curriculum and Instruction
presented the Board of Directors with information regarding The Scholastic Reading Inventory. The reading
assessment program measures vocabulary and increasingly challenging reading comprehension skills. The outcomes indicate that students in grade levels 2nd through 8thhave demonstrated increased proficiency since August 2012, Term 1. In addition, there has also been success with the Read 180 Program as grade levels 4th through 8thshow gains for Term 2. The focus is to strategically read across the curriculum and to continue to build on vocabulary for continued student gains.
The Scholastic Math Inventory is a math assessment program that measures students’ math performance combining the six math strands. Grade levels 2nd through 5th increased their overall proficiency from August 2012through February 2013. Yet, from November 2012 to February 2013, 2nd and 3rd grade continued to show some growth while 4th grade dropped slightly and 5th grade showed no growth. Junior Academy’s performance indicates an increase in their overall proficiency from August 2012 through February 2013. However, from November 2012 through February 2013, 6th grade shows an increase of five points, while 7th grade showed no growth, and 8th grade decreased by 1 point. The goal is to, “remain focused and committed to identifying the areas of strength for all students as we continue to study the expectations of the Common Core State Standards.”
