Dear ______,

On behalf of COMPANY NAME, I would like to welcome you to work with us towards ensuring our business ventures continue to be defined by socially responsible purchasing practices.

As you might well be aware, our company participates in the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI). This initiative, which was launched in 2003 by the Foreign Trade Association(FTA: was established as a response to increasing business demands for transparent and improved working conditionsin global supply chains. It unites more than 1,300 companies from around the world whose activities range from retail to importing to branding. You can find out more about the BSCI at

As a BSCI Participant, our company is committed to the values and principles set out in the BSCI Code of Conduct and to meeting, within our sphere of influence, our responsibility to respect human rightsIn this regard, it remains fundamental to our company’s approach tointegrate the BSCI Code of Conduct, when doing business with all partners regardless of where they source in the world.

The BSCI Code of Conduct version 1/2014 took effect on 1 January, 2014, alongside capacity building activities worldwide, which continue to aim at ensuring that the new practical implications are fully understood. For this reason, I would like to share with you the corresponding official BSCI documents:

  • BSCI Code of Conduct
  • BSCI Terms of Implementation for Business Partners
  • BSCI Reference: Compilation of International Standards relevant for the implementation of the Code such as ILO Conventions and Recommendations
  • BSCI Glossary, which is a set of definitions applicable in the context of the BSCI

On behalf of COMPANY NAME, I invite you to review the attached documentation in full and to pay particular attention to the Terms of Implementation for Business Partners.

If you have received this letter, it means that your company is not part of the BSCI monitoring process. We encourage the relevant representative of your senior management to sign and return to us the Terms of Implementation to, like us, demonstrate a willingness to abide by, and commit to, the BSCI values and principles.

We hold the principles and values of the BSCI Code of Conduct in high regard and we integrate them as part of our sourcing practices and regard them as a prerequisite for further developing our business relationships.

On behalf of COMPANY NAME, I would like to express our trust that you are also driven by the same principles of responsible business and count on your support in this unique opportunity of making our supply chains more sustainable. We have great expectations to deepen our business partnerships by means of constructive dialogue and cooperation with you.

Upon receiving this letter, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me. I would be pleased to receive any feedback you might have and/or respond to any questions regarding the BSCI and the path ahead. We look forwardto hearing from you.
