Standard Gear List for Camps

The following is intended as a guide to what you should take for a standard two night (three day) camp. For longer camps adjust the clothing quota; other adjustments can be made to suit the weather or camp program. Items marked with an asterisk are optional, depending on the nature of the camp. Everything else is essential.

Keep this list for future reference.

Two changes of clothes: warm tops, T-shirts, jeans/track pants. One top should be wool/polarfleece

Pair of sturdy shoes

Spare pair of runners *

Thongs for showering *

Four sets of socks (wool is best, especially for hikes)

Undies

Shorts (optional) *

Sun hat (brim all around)

Warm hat

Warm gloves *

Waterproof rain coat or poncho

Waterproof over-trousers *

Garbage bag

3 or 4 plastic shopping bags (for separating dirty clothes and for storing your uniform)

Sleeping bag (plus a blanket if the bag isn’t very warm)

Warm clothes for sleeping in (e.g. track suit)

Sleep mat or lilo/air bed (note that lilos are too big for hike tents)

Groundsheet (small tarp to put under sleep mat) *

Pillow case for stuffing spare clothes into to make a pillow if the sleeping bag cover can’t be used *

Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, facewasher, comb)

Bathers *

Towel *

Torch (spare batteries if necessary)

Own sunscreen

Eating gear (plate, bowl, mug, cutlery)

Dilly bag (for eating gear: cotton, not plastic)

Tea towel

Green Scout book *

Pencil and paper/notebook

Day pack (not for hikes)

Personal first aid kit

Drink bottle

Coat-hanger (for competition camps) *

Anything else assigned to you

Make sure everything is named!

Please pack carefully. If all your own gear can fit into one big bag or rucksack then this will make life much easier. Note that a pillow is unnecessary because you can put spare clothes into a sleeping bag cover or old pillowslip. No lollies or chips!!!
