ASSISTANT RESIDENCE MANAGER (IRA/ICF)

Summary of Position

Responsible for assisting with the day-to-day functioning of the IRA/ICF unit. Duties include oversight of program activities, coordination of service plan activities and supervision of Direct Support Professional staff. The Assistant Residence Manager helps organize and distribute work assignments and promotes the orderly and efficient operation of the residential environment, including assisting with direct support to the consumers, when necessary. Work is performed under the supervision of the Residence Manager.

Characteristic Duties

Create an environment that facilitates positive interactions among consumers, staff and the community; enforces approved “codes of conduct” on the part of staff and consumers.

Carries out management activities as prescribed; interacts with consumers and engages them in development-appropriate activities; develops plan to assist consumers in acquiring socially acceptable behavior and habits; encourages consumers to express choices and preference in treatment; participates in case conferences or ISP reviews.

Encourages positive interaction and involvement of consumers with the larger community; arranges for participation, to the extent possible, in events inside and outside residence which promote a sense of belonging and community inclusiveness.

Encourages participation in structured activities/learning experiences appropriate to age and developmental capacity of each resident; implements activities which assist consumers to acquire skills necessary to function at the highest possible level of independence.

Under guidance of the Residence Manager, provides working supervision for Direct Support Professional staff, including communicating work assignments and modeling proper techniques for supporting consumers; helps review consumers’ records to ensure that staff entries are up-to-date, accurate, legible and complete.

Monitors the program environment to ensure that activity/program/living space is safe and protective of consumers; immediately documents and reports unsafe or reasonably suspicious situations suggestive of neglect, abuse or exploitation; conducts safety checks; takes measures to minimize/eliminate dangerous situations.

Attends administrative details, including the maintenance of confidential files and records; collect information and provide to the Residence Manager, as requested.

Maintains and review updated records of behavior and activities of consumers; enter information in appropriate log books; ensure that Direct Support Professional staff record observations, as appropriate.

Participates as a cooperative, responsible member of the team; maintains positive relationships with the Edwin Gould constituency, e.g., consumers, families, colleagues, the community and service providers.

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the residential program. Must be willing to work beyond the scheduled hours to meet the needs of the residential program.

Must be available to report to the residence in an impromptu manner to meet the coverage needs of the residential program.

Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Essential Duties

Engage consumers in development-appropriate activities

Arrange for participation in community activities

Provide working supervision for Direct Support Professional staff

Help provide direct support to consumers

Maintain updated case management records

Address safety and protection needs

Rotate on call responsibilities with the Residence Manager

Must be able to oversee the total operation of the residence in the absence of the Residence Manager

Qualifications and Requirements

Education:

Minimum of High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Experience:

A minimum of three (3) years experience working in an environment with developmentally challenged consumers. Or providing direct support to disabled or challenged individuals in a group residential, long term care or health care setting.

Prior supervision experience preferred.

General Skills & Competencies: Must proficient with using most word processing programs

Other Relevant Requirements/Licenses/Certifications/Credentials:

Must maintain a valid driver’s license

Must be SCIP-R, First Aid, CPR & AMAP (or must obtain certification within the first 60 days of employment)

Physical Requirements and Work Environment Demands

Must be able and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as Edwin Gould deems necessary - using public transportation or using agency vehicle. Must be willing and able to transport consumers between locations and service providers. Required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop or bend. Requires the ability to perceive the nature of objects by eye with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, up to 30 feet. Ability to perceive information through speaking and listening. Must carry a cell phone 24/7. Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of self or others. Must be willing to comply with all safety laws, policies and rules.
