Re:School Supplies for September 2012
Below is a list of school supplies that all first graders will need. Please be aware that there will be other items requested at the start of the school year by your child’s teacher. We hope this list helps you as you shop over the summer for back-to-school bargains. Please label all items with your child’s name.
- School bag (be sure your child’s name is on the inside)
- An art smock (large old t-shirt) with name on it
- Plastic pencil box (approximately 5” x 8”)
- A supply of sharpened yellow #2 pencils
- A small pencil sharpener
- Zippered pencil case (for storing math manipulatives)
- A box of 24 crayons
- 2 sturdy two-pocket folders (no prongs, pocket across the bottom not on the sides)
- A supply of large glue sticks—not liquid (Send in one and keep replacements at home—we’ll go through these quickly.)
- A pair of scissors labeled with name
- 3-4 fine-point dry-erase markers (no yellow)—not Vis A Vis markers
- 1 box of tissues
- Last name A-K—antibacterial hand soap pump; Last name L-Z hand sanitizer pump
- 3 2-pocket folders with prongs (1 red, 1 green, 1 yellow)
- Writer’s Notebook (see reverse side for information)
*Remember to bring completed Kindergarten Review Math Packet and “Catch the Reading Bug” log sheet on the first day of school.
Sincerely,
The First Grade Team
Writer’s Notebook
Our Writer’s Notebook will be a personal collection of memories, thoughts, hopes and dreams. It is a safe place to practice our writing. From these pages, a writer can use ideas to springboard future writing. In order to personalize our notebooks, we are requesting that you and your young writer go “Notebook Shopping.” Ideally, this notebook is bound so it remains durable—NO SPIRAL NOTEBOOKS, PLEASE. The larger the size the better with a page count of 40 or more. Your child may decorate or scrapbook the front cover with pictures that tell about them. You may use scrapbooking materials, computer generated pictures or hand drawn. Covering the notebook with clear contact paper will help keep your work of art intact. Please be sure your child’s notebook is clearly labeled with their first and last name on the inside cover. Pages inside should remain blank! Be sure your child has their Writer’s Notebook on the 1st day of school. Happy Shopping!
