Location:Lilleshall National Sports & Conference Centre, and home-based

Job Purpose

Responsible for leading the provision of opportunities for the AGB ‘core audience’ of young people and existing adult participants, but also agreed partnerships, ‘new’ and niche audiences, and thereby the attainment of AGB’s Sport team outcomes 1, 2 and 3:

  1. Retention of members and Reduction of churn amongst young people and existing adults.
  2. Income generation and less reliance on agency funding, along with the identification and development of agreed ‘new’ and niche audiences.
  3. Provision of a Quality Experience re Clubs, Coaching and Competition + ‘Customer experience’.
  4. Athlete Conversion from Pathway into Podium.
  5. Medal success at major internationals, Olympic Games 2020 and Paralympic Games 2020.

Key Objectives

  • To build and grow our understanding of the core archery community.
  • Through the engagement and empowerment of others, lead the development and implementation of programmesand interventions that deliver a quality experience and particularly facilitate the retention of members in the 55+ age group.
  • To develop plans forpriority niche audiences (short stay, disabled and 55+)
  • To develop and maintain key strategic relationships to put appropriate schemes and programmes into action.
  • To capture and articulate the stories which will inspire and influence others to participate on and contribute to our work.
  • To manage, support and influence members of own team

Key Activities

The Communities and Engagement Manager will:

  1. Be responsible for addressing and ensuring AGB’s strategic KPI’s as they relate to our Participation pillar.
  2. Be responsible for enacting the respective Operational measures that bring the relevant strategic KPI’s about.
  3. Through strategic analysis and by working with colleagues across the organisation, review and improve the collection of data and feedback to determine satisfaction of our core market audience of young and senior archers.
  4. Design, implement and monitor an action plan for engagement with the communities within archery.
  5. Contribute to the identification of new and/or niche audiences to target.
  6. Work closely with the Club and Facilities Manager and Coaching Systems Manager to develop and deliver programmes within the following interventions that improve existing archers’ quality of experience and aim to improve retention;
  7. Ambassadorprogramme and Mentor programme
  8. Annual club workshops and webinars
  9. Develop and coordinate communication messages around Sport activity in order that Commercial and Marketing colleagues can effectively deploy the material on variety of communication platforms.
  10. Work in partnership with the YST to continue to engage the education sector in archery, particularly in relation to Arrows delivery in primary schools, and monitoring School Games activity.
  11. Create, develop and manage effective strategic partnerships with appropriate individuals and key external agencies at a national and regional level so they can contribute to our objectives.
  12. Manage, support and influence the following roles; Pathway Programme Manager, Athlete Pathway Manager, Administration Support Officer
  13. Openly communicate and accuratelyrecord progression on all projects and programmes.
  14. Seek out further funding for projects related to the work area.
  15. Produce delivery plans where required, and communicate widely on the impact of this work, ensuring effective feedback loops in place.
  16. Maintain budgetary control to ensure projects are delivered on time and within agreed costs.
  17. Evaluate the outcomes of programmes to ensure that good practice is built upon and poor practice minimised.
  18. Undertake appropriate training and development opportunities.

The Communities and Engagement Manager will work with:

  • Other members of the Sports Team.
  • AGB members and key volunteers.
  • External agencies and partner organisations.
  • Sport Team Senior Management Team.
  • Sport Advisory Group, Focus and Special Interest Groups

Key Measures

The success of this role will be measured on:

  • Quality of experience dialogue, narrative and feedback
  • Retention and reduction of churn indices
  • Successful delivery of the action plan for communities in archery.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications & Training /
  • A Diploma/Degree in Sport or Business or equivalent experience
/
  • Experience at a strategic and managerial level, preferably in the voluntary/sports sector

Knowledge /
  • A good knowledge and understanding of the sports and voluntary sectors
  • A sound understanding of volunteering
  • A good understanding of sports development and pathways to excellence.
  • Demonstrable understanding of archery as a membership activity
  • A good understanding of effective insights, analysing data and communications
  • A good understanding and commitment to managing diversity
/
  • Practical experience of working within the voluntary sector, as a volunteer.
  • Knowledge from practical experience of managing within the voluntary/public sector, preferably relating to sports.
  • Understanding of minority or special interest groups and the implications for participants, service delivery and voluntary organisations
  • Some knowledge of Performance and Talent systems and pathways in the UK
  • Sound knowledge of archery

Experience /
  • Experience of the strategic development of programmes and partnerships
  • Demonstrable experience of managing budgets and working with volunteers.
