REWARDS FOR ATHLETES
At the AGM on 6th October 2008 it was agreed in principle to reward athletes who competed regularly for the club. Draft proposals were drawn up at a meeting of Team Managers and Club Captains at the Redoubt on 6th November 2008. This was discussed at the Committee Meeting on 1st December 2008 and clarified at the Committee meeting on 2nd March 2009.
All decisions will be reviewed at the end of 2009. £3, 000 has been set aside to reward senior athletes. Athletes can qualify for this in several ways and the money will be shared out at the end of the year among those athletes who have qualified in the specific events stated. There must be a Wakefield team competing in those events. Individual entries are not considered. The Committee will consider some discretionary payments to athletes who have competed often for the club but have just missed out on qualifying for the payment. An athlete can qualify for more than one payment. Team Managers must submit a list of their competitors to the Club President, John Newsome, who will administer the system.
CROSS- COUNTRY/ ROAD
To qualify an athlete must compete in four events from: -
West Yorkshire League Races.
Yorkshire / Northern / National Championships.
Yorkshire / Northern / National Relays.
TRACK AND FIELD
To qualify an athlete must compete in either
(a)All three National League events or
(b)All four Northern League events.
Other events to be taken into consideration
National Cup / Plate / Shield events
10 events competitions.
Athletes who travel as a reserve and compete in guest events, and people who travel as officials where points are lost if the correct number of officials are not provided, will also count as team members.
JUNIOR / YOUNG ATHLETES
The scheme for Juniors / Young athletes is different when not competing as a Senior. After competing in a comparable competition to the ones listed previously, the Team Manager will give them two signed slips. One can be handed in as one night’s training fee, the other is to the value of 50p for refreshments purchased at the club shop. Team Managers can obtain the relevant slips from John Newsome.
TRAINING FEES
It has been brought to the attention of the Committee that some athletes are not paying the required training fees. In future such athletes will be reported to the Committee and sanctions taken against the offending athlete. Only athletes who have gained senior Great Britain selection are exempt from training fees.
