Context
The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies. We enable vulnerable people in the UK and abroad to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives. Within the UK, the British Red Cross operates through about 3500 staff and over 30,000 volunteers. Geographically, the UK is organised into 20 areas, which are grouped into three regions.
The marketing, creative and brand department is responsible for creative services in terms of design, film, photography and production, alongside market research, marketing, brand development and management, campaigns and customer experience.
Overall purpose of the role
The film and video officer is responsible for creating digital video content for use in a range of British Red Cross communication channels, with an emphasis on online videos. The content will range from simple pieces to camera to complex multiplatform digital campaigns, a particular focus being to produce video at short notice and in breaking-news situations. Occasional support may also be required on TV and other advertising campaigns from time to time.
Main responsibilities and duties
1. To shoot, produce, direct, edit and deliver first class professional film and video content. And to organise and manage film shoots.
2. To digitise clips, assemble edits, rough cuts and complete final master edits of video for a range of BRC purpose or platforms and to ensure that all film and video content is compliant with current video visual identity and emblem guidelines.
3. To work with clients and colleagues to optimise professional film and video production, providing professional advice and support to internal clients working with external agencies.
4. To manage relationships with freelancers and agencies, to commission and source content as directed by manager to meet client requirements.
5. To post videos to YouTube, Vimeo and seed to social media sites. And to encode and upload submissions to Clearcast for TV broadcast where applicable.
6. To be up-to-date with new developments in software, hardware and practice and to work as directed by manager to optimise workflow, video and film quality and impact.
7. To manage and maintain video kit and documentation, including internal loan procedures.
8. To organise filing system for all Final Cut Pro digital files.
9. To create a master and archive info system for each job, maintain digital storage archive, royalty-free music archives and archives for graphics and effects.
10. To organise tapes. Maintain a clear PC based tape log system, ensuring multi-user access on shared-drive. And to manage tape-less workflows and take charge of the processing of raw files, file storage and card formatting.
11. To work with the photography manager to ensure a joined-up approach to the storage, cataloguing and usage of film and video content and stills photography.
12. To carry out other duties as requested by the Film and video manager.
