A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor and loving memory of Ethel May Brown McBrayer.
WHEREAS, Ethel May Brown McBrayer was a daughter of the Commonwealth, born in Greenup County on February 11, 1914, to the late Walter Brown and Polly Lenore Hurst Brown; and
WHEREAS, Ethel May Brown McBrayer dedicated much of her life to the esteemed endeavor of educating herself and others. She attended Morehead State University and earned a master's degree from Marshall University. A long-time resident of Greenup County and a staple of that community, she worked as a teacher and principal at Greenup Elementary School and Greenup High School; and
WHEREAS, Ethel May Brown McBrayer participated in many worthwhile causes and won numerous awards for her good stewardship. In 2012, she was named area Mother of the Year by Chrysalis House and was honored by the Kentucky Assisted Living Facilities Association with a Lifetime Achievement Award. She served on the FIVCO Mental Health Board, the DOW Chemicals and Christian Homes of Kentucky Advisory Boards, the Greenup Tourism Committee, and was a member of the Chapel House at Kentucky Christian College; and
WHEREAS, Ethel May Brown McBrayer accomplished many good works in her lifelong pursuit of educating the people of this Commonwealth. She founded the Administrators Association of Greenup County, served as PTA President, and was acting Chairperson for the Billy Ray Cyrus Foundation. She was also an inaugural member of the Jesse Stuart Foundation, giving much of her free time to illuminating the history and work of the great Kentucky writer; and
WHEREAS, Ethel May Brown McBrayer was a longtime member of Greenup Christian Church, and in her later years she attended Tates Creek Christian Church; and
WHEREAS, Ethel May Brown McBrayer, an avid fan of University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball who regularly attended games, was a shining light to those she taught, those she mentored, and all those who were fortunate to meet her. On June 2, 2013, at 99 years old, Mrs. McBrayer passed from this earthly life, and an entire Commonwealth mourns her loss; and
WHEREAS, Ethel May Brown McBrayer was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, E. Ward McBrayer; her daughter, Phyllis Smith; and her son-in-law, Ben. She leaves behind her sister, Kathryn L. Reed; her children, Terry McBrayer and his wife, Ann, and Judy Campbell; her son-in-law, Jack Smith; her grandchildren, Carolyn Burdette, Terri Ann Elswick and her husband, Barry, Rose Smith, R.J. Smith and his wife, Amy, Rick Campbell, John McBrayer, Sarah Savarie and her husband, Phil, Tate Sherman, Kelly Jarrell, and Michael Russell; great-grandchildren, Samantha Burdette, John Burdette, Bea Savarie, Lucy Savarie, Mina McBrayer, Odin McBrayer, Alex McBrayer, Chance Smith, Zayne Smith, Brock Smith, Aaron Elswick, Matthew Elswick, Becky Miller, and Brad Hampton; niece, Polly Conley; great-nieces, Janie Conley and Laura Howard; and nephew, Bill McCoy, Jr.;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its most profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Ethel May Brown McBrayer, and extends its sincerest condolences to her beloved family and friends.
Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Ethel May Brown McBrayer.
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Representative Tanya Pullin for delivery.
