The 10th International Biennial of Textile Miniatures

“ETHNO”

November 14 – December9, 2017

Dear Artist

On the eve of the centenary of the Lithuanian statehood, we are marking the year 2017 as the year of the national costume. The 10th International Textile Miniature Biennale is dedicated to the exclusivity of ethnic theme. The manifestations of national identity are becoming even more relevant in the current situation of globalization, cosmopolitanism, and the convergence of artistic forms. The participants are invited to reflect on their national region (Lithuanian if you wish) identity, history, and traditions nowadays. In this way, artists from different countries express the national and historic uniqueness of the regions they represent, encourage tolerance and interest in their countries, which is of particular importance to the world in the face of military conflicts and threats of terrorism, while solving the problems of refugee integration from war-torn regions and ethnicity preservation issue. It is important for multi-ethnic societies not only to express their identity in an artistic form, but also to deepen their relationship with a stranger, speak openly about some social and psychological fears arising therefore. This global world is changing dynamically and offering a lot of opportunities to interact, explore and use the experience of other countries, however, providing a variety of challenges as well.

How to preserve one’s ethnic identity, how to give it a modern appearance? How to make it more attractive not only to ourselves but also to the representatives of other countries?

The participants of this exhibition will not be limited either to the means of expression or techniques. The selection of works will be aimed at evaluating and reflecting the diverse presentation of ethnicity and prevailing tendencies in textile art.

If you wish to participate in this event which will include an exhibition of selected works at the Lithuanian Artists’ Association’s Art Gallery “Arka” in Vilnius, you are invited to send your Entry material untill1 October, 2017.
