Whereas, many outstanding athletes at the professional, amateur, collegiate, and high school levels, including those whose performances over this last year are noteworthy, have proudly raised Vermont’s flag as their own, and

Whereas, the members of the Vermont Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association (VSSA) each month selects an outstanding male and female athlete, and

Whereas, the athletes selected in the past year, from May 2002 through April 2003, including: Angela Megaw, Fair Haven Union High School, softball; Jeff Guilmette, University of Vermont, track; Mary Heitkamp, Fair Haven Union High School, track; Tyler Pelland, Mount Abraham Union High School, baseball; Eliza Callwood, Shelburne, Knights of Columbus Swim Club; Eric Yeager, Essex, American Legion Baseball; Libby Smith, Essex, golf; Josh Santerre, Essex, American Legion Baseball; Meagan Maynard, Harwood Union High School, field hockey; Jack Eaton, Rutland, University of Maine, football; Amanda Bodette, Middlebury Union High School, cross country; Teddy Mock, Hartford High School, football; Morgan Hall, University of Vermont, basketball; Kyle Thibodeau, Bellows Falls Union High School, football; Liz LeFebvre, St. Michael’s College, basketball; Jesse Epstein, Vergennes Union High School, basketball; Dani Rayner, Bellows Falls Union High School, basketball; Patrick Glover, Johnson State College, basketball; Jevy Rayner, Bellows Falls Union High School, basketball; Taylor Coppenrath, University of Vermont, basketball; Ida Sargent, North Country Union High School and Craftsbury Nordic Ski Club, Nordic skiing; Kurtis McClean, Norwich University, hockey; Alyssa Trudel, Shoreham, Boston University, lacrosse; and Barry Chamberland, University of Vermont, basketball, are outstanding representatives of their respective sports and affiliated institutions, and

Whereas, each of these athletes will be honored at an awards banquet to be held on June 1 at Norwich University’s Plumley Armory, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates each of the outstanding athletes named in the past year by the Vermont Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association as an athlete of the month, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to each athlete named in this resolution.
