Breakout Session Options
Using the IPDP as a Meaningful Development Tool / During this session appraisers will discuss how a teacher development plan can be used throughout the year to support/encourage and change/re-direct instructional practices. Appraisers will collaborate to generate and explore strategies for using teacher development plans effectively throughout the year.
Drafting High Quality PPAs / During this session appraisers will review when it is appropriate to place a teacher on a PPA, discuss practices and tips for writing PPAs that effectively support teacher development and will share solutions to common pitfalls associated with the PPA process.
Effective Feedback / In this breakout session appraisers will refine and develop skills in providing teachers with high quality feedback that improves teacher performance. Appraisers will watch observation videos and apply best practices as they practice writing feedback for the teachers in the videos.
Norming Your Appraiser Team / Appraisers will discuss the challenges associated with trying to improve accuracy and consistency of their team’s IP ratings and will work together in the session to generate solutions to these challenges. The facilitator will present some hallmarks of teams who do this well and will share a personal example of his/her own efforts to norm on their own campus.
Difficult Conversations / During this session appraisers learn about five best practices that make difficult conversation about teacher performance easier and will use a large chunk of the breakout time to practice and prepare key messages for 4 common, and potentially difficult, scenarios.
Comparative Growth / As a result of this session, appraisers will have a better understanding of the Comparative Growth model. Appraisers will discuss some common misconceptions about Comparative Growth and will learn how to share the information they learn with teachers as they implement Student Performance next year.
Student Performance / During this session appraisers will take a closer look at the Student Performance part of the A&D system by reviewing the Student Performance process, discuss best practices for measure assignment, and exploring a case study on appraiser-approved assessments.
