Written Assessment of Risk of ScoilRéaltna Mara Cromane

In accordance with section 11 of the Children First Act 2015 andwith the requirement of Chapter 8 ofthe Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post-Primary Schools 2017, the following is the Written Risk Assessment of ScoilRéaltna Mara Cromane.

List of school activities / The school has identified the following risk of harm in respect of its activities - / The school has the following procedures in place to address the risks of harm identified in this assessment
Training of school personnel in Child Protection matters / Harm not recognised or reported promptly / Child Safeguarding Statement (prepared 20/3/18) & DES procedures made available to all staff and substitute staff.
DLP (Séamus Shaughnessy) & DDLP (Susan Murphy) to attend PDST face to face training in May ’18. All Staff to view TUSLA training module & any other online training offered by PDST.
BOM records all records of staff and board training. Record sheet prepared in office.
One to one teaching / Harm by school personnel / School has policy in place for one to one teaching
SEN rooms and library to be fitted with doors with glass panels.

Teacher and pupils to be aware of and respect personal boundaries.

Toilet areas / Inappropriate behaviour / Toilet areas and corridors to be supervised by staff on yard duty during breaks. Generally pupils will not be in their classrooms during breaks.
Library door is to be left open at all times.
Curricular Provision in respect of SPHE, RSE, Stay Safe / Non-teaching of same / School implements SPHE, RSE, Stay Safe in full. SPHE Policy to be revised periodically. Stay Safe Programme was updated recently and this is carried out every two years.

Important Note: It should be noted that risk in the context of this risk assessment is the risk of
“harm” as defined in the Children First Act 2015 and not general health and safety risk. The definition
of harm is set out in Chapter 4 of the Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post- Primary
Schools 2017

In undertaking this risk assessment, the board of management has endeavoured to identify as far as possible the risks of harm that are relevant to this school and to ensure that adequate procedures are in place tomanage all risks identified. While it is not possible to foresee and remove all risk of harm, the school has in place the procedures listed in this risk assessment to manage and reduce risk to the greatest possible extent.

This risk assessment has been completed by the Board of Management on February 12th, 2018.

It shall be reviewed as part of the school’s annual review of its Child Safeguarding Statement.
