Dear Parents and Guardians:

In order to bolster student success, Montgomery County Public Schools is offering summer programs at each middle school. The extended year program at Loiederman will provide Support Classes in reading or mathematics and instruction for students who have not been successful with MCPS English/reading or mathematics curriculum and need additional intervention. Classes will consist of a review of concepts from previous years’ curricula and a preview of the curriculum students will experience in the 2016-2017 school year.

The following Support Courses will be offered:

Support Reading Support Mathematics

For incoming 6th gradersFor incoming Math 6 students

For incoming 7th graders (and ESOL) For incoming IM students

For incoming 8th graders

The support courses will be held July 5 through July 29. Student hours are 7:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There is a $95 fee for this program, and transportation services will be available for those students eligible for bus transportation during the regular school year, and will follow the activity bus routes. Students are served breakfast and lunch. There will be approximately 20 students in a class. If 12 students do not register in this class by June 13, 2016, then the class will be cancelled and your registration fee will be refunded.

A. Mario Loiederman Middle School will also be offering an extended year program called Focus on Algebra. This class is designed for students who, with additional mathematics instruction, will be able to maximize their potential to be successful in an advanced mathematics class next school year. Students will receive instruction on content that is essential to future success in algebra or geometry.

Focus on Algebra

For incoming Algebra I students

This three-week program will be held July 5 through July 22. Course hours are 7:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There is a $75 fee for this program, and bus transportation will be available for those students who are eligible for bus transportation during the regular school year. Buses will follow the activity bus route. There will be approximately 20 students in a class. If 12 students do not register in this class by June 13, 2016, then the class will be cancelled and your registration fee will be refunded.

To register for the extended year summer program, please complete and return the enclosed form and the registration fee to Ms. Delayo or the school office by June 13, 2016.Tuition waivers are available for qualified students. See the enclosed Waiver Application Form and follow the directions on the form if you qualify. If you are not sure which course is appropriate for your child, please contact his/her math or English teacher or counselor. Enrollmentison a first-come, first-servedbasis.If your child is enrolled in a class, we will send you a confirmation letter in late June with information, including bus route locations and times.
