Responsibilities and Job Description

Reports to: Headteacher

The Deputy Headteacher will be responsible for working with and supporting the Headteacher on the following key school leadership and management areas. This will involve taking responsibility for aspects of these areas, with specific duties being determined on appointment in line with the strengths and expertise of the successful candidate.
Developing the Vision for the school
As a member of our Senior Leadership Team at Belmont School you will be assisting the Headteacher in developing and promoting the ethos and educational vision for the school. This involves managing, leading and developing staff to secure high standards for pupil achievement, behaviour, welfare and social development. You will ensure that pupils are provided with the highest standard of care and education, in addition to those professional responsibilities and standards required of all classroom teachers.
Skills and Knowledge

·  Substantial and extensive knowledge of at least 2 Key Stages (EYFS, KS1, KS2)

·  Ability to show sensitivity, respect, resilience and confidentiality when working with all members of the school community
Teaching and Learning
·  Be an excellent role model, exemplifying a high standard of teaching and promoting high expectations for all members of the school community
·  Improve pupil outcomes through working with the Headteacher and SLT to implement a robust and accountable staff Appraisal process
·  Support the development and delivery of training for staff linked to school priorities and identified professional development needs
·  Lead the development and review of curriculum and assessment across the school
·  Work in partnership with the Headteacher and SLT in managing the school through strategic planning and the formulation of policy and delivery of the School Development Plan, ensuring management decisions are implemented
·  With the SLT lead the processes involved in monitoring, evaluating the quality of learning and teaching across the school to ensure consistency and quality. Contributing to review of the school’s SEF.
·  To ensure, in partnership with the SLT, SENDCo, teachers and teaching assistants, that the educational needs of individual children are met, taking account of the SEN Code of Practice and requirements of equal opportunities in disability, race, gender, faith and sexual orientation
·  Provide analysis of assessment data from a variety of sources (teacher assessment, National test data, RAISEonline, Fischer Families etc) to inform future whole school planning and provision mapping
·  Promote the school’s Teaching for Learning Policy to ensure, through effective methods of coaching and mentoring, the involvement of all pupils and staff in their own learning
Leading and managing staff
·  Undertake the professional duties of the Headteacher in their absence
·  With the Headteacher and SLT, lead reviews of school systems to ensure statutory requirements are being met and improved on where appropriate
·  Ensure the effective dissemination of information, the maintenance of and ongoing improvements to agreed systems for internal communication (Including structure and agenda leadership meetings, staff , phase and Steps to Success Team Meetings; Planning etc)
·  Working with the Headteacher and SLT to undertake key activities related to professional, personnel and HR issues (eg. line management of support teams; absence monitoring and cover for staff absence)
·  Take day to day responsibility for the running of the school with the SLT
·  Demonstrate high standards of personal integrity, loyalty, discretion and professionalism at all times, whilst publicly supporting all decisions of the Headteacher and Governing Body.
Developing self and others
·  Assist the Headteacher in the recruitment, selection, induction and mentoring of new staff
·  Support the Headteacher in the financial management of the school and to take some responsibility for some aspects of resource management
·  Lead and support the development of collaborative approaches to learning within the school and beyond
·  Create a climate which enables other staff to develop and maintain positive attitudes to teaching
·  Build a mutually supportive team, which constantly challenges children, expects the most of them and uses a wide range of methods to help children learn
·  Inspire ambition and confidence in others to meet their goals
·  Provide clear feedback , good support and sound advice to others
·  Liaise with parents, carers and external agencies to promote pupils’ achievement, behaviour, attendance and wellbeing
·  Work with the Headteacher and SLT to deliver a relevant programme of professional development for all staff, including quality coaching and mentoring, and action research based models in line with the School Development Plan and the Appraisal process.
·  Lead the annual Appraisal for identified staff
Securing Accountability
·  Support the staff and governors in fulfilling their responsibilities with regard to the school’s performance and standards
·  Support the Headteacher in reporting the school’s performance to its community and partners
·  Promote and protect the health and safety and welfare of pupils and staff
·  Work with the Headteacher and Assistant Headteachers to ensure that the school’s safeguarding policies are implemented effectively
Strengthening community
·  Take an active role in developing links with the local community and neighbouring schools, networks and partnerships
·  Work with the Headteacher and SLT in developing the policies and practice, which promote inclusion, equality and extended services which the school offers
·  Develop and maintain contact with specialist support services as appropriate
·  Promote the positive involvement of parents/carers in school life
·  Organise and conduct meetings where appropriate with parents/carers to ensure positive outcomes for all parties
·  Strengthen partnership and community working, including development of the school’s “local offer”
