Program Requirements:

  • BOOTS – Paddock boots or cowboy boots designed for riding are preferred. A sturdy shoe with a “squared” (not sloping from sole of shoe) heel and a relatively smooth sole may be sufficient. Horseplay often has boots available to loan but cannot guarantee we’re able to fit every child every week. K-Mart & Wal Mart sometimes have suitable “cowboy boots”. There are many online stores to purchase from (see list under “helmet” below). Allow AT LEAST 10 days for delivery. Please call if you have questions about suitable footwear. We don’t want you to purchase something that isn’t usable! “Hiking boots” are not safe for riding.

If your child needs to borrow our boots we ask for a parent’s help in assisting to fit their child to our boots the first day. Other (closed) shoes for lunch and playtime (after the riding sessions) are fine, and tennis shoes or hiking boots recommended for “walkabouts” or if we have an adventure day planned. Rubber “muck boots” are great for barn chores…and come with a lot of color & style these days!

  • HELMETS – A riding helmet with ASTM/SEI certification (for horse activities) is required whenever a child is mounted. Horseplay has a limited number of helmets available to borrow at no additional charge. Helmets may be purchased by mail order for about $30 - up (the least expensive certified helmet is usually comfortable & suitable.) Online go to Amazon Prime (free shipping for subscribers) or Jeffers Equine online (these companies usually ship by priority mail).
  • Extra clothing – A rain jacket and/or light jacket should be available for our often cool afternoons. Please label clothing and take them home on Friday! If your child is borrowing Horseplay boots, please have them wear comfortable tennis shoes or muck boots to change into after riding. Bring an extra pair of clothes each day.
  • SNACKS – A light morning snack will be provided. Water is available but a personal (labeled) water bottle is highly recommended!
  • LUNCH – Students bring their own lunches (and they will be hungry!)
  • DROP OFF & PICK UP – Students are to be dropped off at 8:30 am and picked up at 2:30 pm. Early drop off & late pick up may be available for a fee but must be arranged in advance. If your child is dropped off early or picked up late a $15 per quarter hour fee will be charged.
  • If you are delayed by an emergency or severe traffic please call to inform us.
  • Please park below the arena; do not drive in to the barn (unless it is raining heavily, then please drive in slowly).
  • Students MUST be signed in and out verbally with an instructor or counselor!

Family & friends are welcome to stay and watch or drop in for a visit. Advance notice is necessary so we can arrange to have your child ride at a time convenient for us – and you! (Students usually ride between 9:30 and 12:30). Fridays are very busy and often include games, so if you are planning to visit, Wednesday or Thursday is best. We will send home a CD of camp photos. Though we don’t edit them, you will find many pictures of each child there.

If you have any questions please call Cyndy at 345-4696 (Email: ) Hope to see you this summer!

Happy Trails,

Cyndy DeMeter & the Horseplay Crew

HORSEPLAY EQUESTRIAN CENTER, LLC

WAIVER & RELEASE OF LIABILITY FOR MINOR

In exchange for good and valuable consideration, I agree to participate in the activities of Horseplay Equestrian Center, LLC, owned by Cyndy DeMeter (hereafter referred to as “Horseplay”) its associations and/or affiliate sport & equestrian program(s), and related events and activities, based on the following restrictions and parameters:

  1. I agree that I will, with the minor participant and prior to participation, inspect the facilities and equipment to be used, and if I or the minor believes anything is unsafe, I or the minor will immediately advise the instructor of such condition(s) and refuse to participate until such conditions are resolved.
  2. I agree that the minor participant will wear an ASTM/SEI approved riding helmet at all times when riding.
  3. I acknowledge and fully understand that the minor participant will be engaging in activities that involve risk of serious injury, including permanent disability and death, and severe social and economic losses which might result not only from the minor participant’s own actions, but also from inactions or negligence of others, the rules of play, or the condition of the premises or of any equipment used, and, further, that there may be other risks not known or reasonably foreseeable at this time and I agree to the minor’s participation accepting such unknown risks.
  4. I acknowledge and fully understand that Hawaii Revised Statutes § 663B-2 provides a rebuttable presumption that injury, loss, damages or death was not caused by the negligence of Horseplay or its employees or agents if the injury, loss, damage or death was caused solely by the inherent risk and unpredictable nature of the equine. Such inherent risks of equine activities and the unpredictable nature of the equine include, but are not limited to; (a) the propensity of an equine to behave in ways that may result in injury, harm, or death to persons on or around them; (b) the unpredictability of an equine’s reaction to such things as sounds, sudden movement, and unfamiliar objects, persons and other animals; (c) certain hazards such as surface or subsurface conditions; (d) collisions with other equines or objects; and (e) the potential of a participant to act in a negligent manner that may contribute to injury of the participant or others, such as failing to maintain control over the animal or not acting within the participant’s ability.
  5. I assume, on behalf of myself and the minor participant and with full knowledge of all of the above as well as other inherent risks which may be associated with equine activities, all the foregoing risks and accept personal responsibility for any damages following such injury, permanent disability or death. I, on behalf of myself and the minor participant, hereby waive any and all claims for personal injury or property damage of any kind which I or the minor participant or our heirs, personal representatives and next of kin may have or which may arise against Horseplay, Cyndy DeMeter, or their successors, assigns, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents, as a result of my participation in such equine activities, whether or not such injuries or damages result from negligence or legal liability. I also, on behalf of myself and the minor participant and our heirs, personal representatives and next of kin, hereby release and discharge Horseplay, Cyndy DeMeter, or their successors, assigns, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all liabilities, claims, lawsuits, losses, costs, causes of action and damages of any kind originating or in any way arising from the minor’s or my participation in such equine activities.

I, THE UNDERSIGNED, HEREBY DECLARE THAT I HAVE COMPLETELY READ AND UNDERSTAND THIS WAIVER AND RELEASE AND I VOLUNTARILY ACCEPT THE TERMS OF THIS WAIVER AND RELEASE FOR THE MINOR’S PARTICIPATION IN THE ACTIVITIES DESCRIBED HEREIN.
