Position: Northeast District Field Coordinator

Location: Duluth, Moose Lake, or Gooseberry Falls State Park near Two Harbors, Minnesota

Start Date: August 1, 2016 (or earliest available)

Status/Compensation: Full-time, Salary low $30,000, benefits

Reports to: Northeast District Manager

Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa provides hands-on environmental stewardship and service-learning opportunities to youth and young adults while accomplishing conservation, natural resource management projects and emergency response work. The Field Coordinator is integral to the AmeriCorps Field program’s goal of accomplishing challenging work projects, as well as providing training, education, coordination and leadership to ensure a positive and safe experience for AmeriCorps participants, ages 18-25. The Field Coordinator works in cooperation with District Staff to manage training, education and equipment logistics for regional field crews.

Responsibilities:

·  Provide or coordinate required trainings such as chainsaw classroom and field, defensive driving, vehicle operation and maintenance, ATV, trailering, tool use and safety, herbicide application, wild land fire, tree identification and GPS.

·  Coordinate field projects: manage crew schedules, tasks, tools, meals and lodging for out of town assignments and communicate logistics with project partners, Crew Leaders and District Staff.

·  Coordinate community service volunteer events and district education/training days.

·  Work with crews in the field to provide guidance on technical projects and perform spike camp (up to 12 consecutive days) and emergency response duties (up to 30 consecutive days) as assigned.

·  Acquire, maintain, repair and inventory tools, equipment, and fleet as needed.

·  Administer Corps safety program, develop project ERPs and conduct field site visits to ensure that Corpsmembers are familiar with and implement safe practices and procedures.

·  Assist with Corpsmember personnel management including hiring, evaluation and discipline (incident reports, suspension and termination) in accordance with Corps policies in coordination with District Staff.

·  Collect, verify, and submit records including personnel paperwork, timecards, work accomplishment reports, program and performance evaluations, vehicle/employee accident reports and training records.

·  Represent the Conservation Corps at outreach events and job fairs and assist in recruitment efforts.

·  Actively participate in Field Program Committees to develop/update program-wide curriculum and policies.

Qualifications:

·  Supervisory and programming experience (preferably with the 18-25 age group).

·  Working knowledge of conservation project management from a variety of disciplines such as trail construction, shoreline restoration and forest management.

·  Experience with hand and power tools, tree felling and chainsaw operation, and trail construction/carpentry.

·  Demonstrated experience in coordinating and facilitating training.

·  Excellent written and oral communication skills.

·  Ability to work well with minimal supervision, multi-task, and be flexible in responsibilities.

·  Current WFA/CPR certificate.

·  Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

·  Familiarity with AmeriCorps and local, state and federal natural resource agencies.

·  Four-year degree in a related field is preferred.
