A HAPPY FACE IN EVERY SPACE

Dear Families

ST ROBERT’S SCHOOL PRAYER

MARY, MOTHER OF JESUS,

FILL OUR HEARTS

WITH A LOVE OF GOD AND A GREATER LOVE

FOR EACH OTHER.

BRING TO OUR WORLD A LASTING PEACE,

BASED ON RESPECT

AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.

HELP ALL NATIONS TO FOLLOW THE WISHES

OF JESUS, THAT WE SHOULD LIVE IN LOVE AND

PEACE WITH EACH OTHER.

THROUGH CHRIST, OUR LORD.

At the very heart of our school prayer we pray the words “based on respect and justice for all”. Next Friday 20th March is National Day against bullying and to mark that day, St Robert’s has planned an entire week’s focus on respect for each other. In fact, next week has been proclaimed as ‘Respect For All Week’ and throughout the week all classes will be engaged in activities, discussions and prayer reinforcing the importance of maintaining a respect for all at St Robert’s. The week will end on Friday with a special sausage sizzle lunch and our very own Happy Faces day.

This year’s motto at St Robert’s is ‘A Happy Face in Every Space’ and I can’t think of a better way of achieving this than by actioning the words of our prayer every day with every person we meet.

God Bless you all, have a nice week, Mark.

‘Respect for All’ Week/ National Day of Action Against Bullying

Next week, St Robert’s will participate in the ‘National Day of Action Against Bullying’ on

Friday, March 20th. Prior to this, we will be holding our inaugural ‘Respect for All’ Week, where we focus on building positive connections and relationships across our school. Each class will be focusing on the core value of RESPECT. A number of activities will take place at each level and in each classroom, culminating with ‘Friendly Friday’, when we will be spelling out our anti-bullying message as a whole school, and enjoying a BBQ lunch! Our dual messages for the week are: ‘St Robert’s says YES to respect, and NO to bullying!’

ENHANCING OUR CATHOLIC IDENTITY

Project Compassion, Week 4–Sharing Food for Life

Sarita – sharing food for life Sarita was struggling to grow enough food for her family on her tiny farm plot. In 2007, with the assistance of a program run by Caritas Nepal, she started a fish-raising business with 11 others. Now, they have a thriving enterprise and a life-long source of food and income.

This program gave us skills and supported us to make something of ourselves."

Mother-of-three Sarita attended school until the eighth grade, making her one of the most educated women in her village. Yet, like the majority of people in rural Nepal, her family was very poor. “With the produce from our land we did not meet our food security and basic needs,” Sarita explains. In 2007, Sarita’s life changed. Caritas Nepal, supported by Caritas Australia, initiated the Kolkatla Fish Raising Group, an innovative, collaborative program that works for the common good of the wider community. Sarita and 11 other villagers were provided with the funding and training they needed to establish and run a business raising and selling fish. “This program embraced the poorest of the poor like us, gave us skills and supported us with funds to invest and make something of ourselves,” says Sarita.

Through hard work and dedication, the group has flourished. The farm produces around 8,000 kg of fish each year, which the group sells for a good price through local markets. With steady income from the Fish Raising Group, Sarita’s family has been able to feel secure. They’ve bought additional farming land, diversified their crops and now share a secure, sustainable source of healthy food for life.

“The program has provided our family with good health and hope,” says Sarita. “And it has become a platform for the unity and growth of the community.”

The program has...become a platform for the unity and growth of the community.”
