Super 8 Cricket

Games are to take place between two teams of 8 players. All players must bat and each player other than the wicket keeper must bowl one over each. The game can be played as a single game, however, to provide maximum player participation it is best suited to a knockout competition or full competition. With only 14 avers required to complete one match it is ideally suited to one full day competition or several afternoons during daylight saving time

RULES

All games are played in accordance with the laws of cricket as recognised by the Australian Cricket Board and as adopted by the NSWCA except as amended below:

a. Each game is played between two teams of 8 players and consists of a maximum of seven sixball overs bowled by each side from one end of the wicket.

b. With the exception of the wicket keeper each member of the fielding side one over. The wicket keeper cannot be changed during a game unless lie is injured. The substitute wicket keeper who cannot bowl, must complete the innings.

c. All runs and extras are scored according to the accepted laws of cricket with die following exceptions:

(i) Any wide delivery or "no ball'' shall count as two extras to the batting side and an extra ball will be bowled for each.

(ii) A ball called a wide by the umpire will be considered a dead ball. Two runs only will be scored and die batsman cannot be dismissed.

Two lines will be drawn at right angles to the crease from the bowling to the batting crease, 60cins from the middle stump, to assist the umpires. Any ball which passes outside these lines will be called a wide unless it strikes the bat or any part of the batsman below the shoulders.

(iii) Any ball delivered by the bowler reaching the batter above shoulder height in his normal batting stance shall be called a “no ball”. Two runs will be added to the score and another ball will be bowled.

(iv) Underarm bowling is riot permitted.

d. Limited Field Placements

(i) When the ball is bowled no fielder, may stand closer than 10 metres from the strikers wicket on the legside or in front of point on the off side.

e. A Batsman must retire not out on reaching a personal score of 28 for 12 years age group and 38 for older years (or the total lie achieves if his last scoring shot takeshim beyond this score). Retired batsman may return in the order in which they were retired if one of the last pair of batsman is out before the completion of 7 overs. If 7 wickets fall before the 7 overs are completed, the last remaining batsman can bat on with the 7th dismissed batsman. The remaining batsman is the only one who can score runs and must return to the strikers end each time lie scores a 1, 3 or 5. If either of these last two batsman are run out, the innings will be ended.

f. Team members are numbered 1 to 8 (replacements 9 12) and bat in their nominated order. In any knockout or round robin competition players must continue to rotate to ensure every player is given the maximum opportunity to bat. For example, if batsman 5 and 6 were batting at the completion of their teams innings in a specific game, numbers 7 and 8 would open the batting in the following game. Any replacements who come into this game would be required to bat before any player who has, previously batted.
