Vitals / Can take and record a set of vitals accurately and efficiently.
Cot Operations / Exhibit the ability to perform all necessary functions on the cot with the assistance of one other person. This includes loading and unloading the cot with a person on it.
Squad Checks / Complete 1 thorough squad check and participate in daily squad checks. Be able to locate, operate, and justify the function of every piece of equipment in the ambulance.
Driving / Exhibit the ability to operate and drive the ambulance around campus. Know emergent driving protocols and be familiar with the siren and emergency light functions (Take the ambulance to the arena and practice).
Hospital Locations / Adequately describe how you would get to Good Sam & Children's. Locate directions to WPAFB & review them with a crew chief. Successfully drive to KMC, GVH, GSH, CMC, DHH & MVH (This may be done on your own). / GSH:___CMC:___ GVH:___DHH:___ KMC:___MVH:___
On-campus Locations / Review a campus map. Familiarize yourself with the routes from the squad house to buildings on campus. Review which roads are one ways and know the names of all the roads on campus. Only main parking lots should reviewed.
Communications / Review proper radio traffic. Know each crew members assigned number. Review how to use the BLS radio, 800 radio to call the hospital and cell phone.
Patient Assessment / Review both medical and trauma patient assessments. Be able to go through a simulated call.
Airway / Know how to assemble and use nasal cannulas, non-rebreathers, bag-valve mask. Know the oxygen flow rates for each. Know how to operate both the on board and portable oxygen tanks. Review proper use of nasal and oral airways. Review intubations.
Splinting / Review splinting the following joints/bones: ankle, knee, femur, pelvis, wrist, ulna, elbow, shoulder, flail chest, clavicle
Bleeding Control / Review DEATH. Review how to adequately apply pressure dressings to the following areas: finger, arm, leg, and head. Describe how to dress a sucking chest wound.
Pharmacology / Review all medication carried in the drug bag and ambulance. Know dosages, indications, contraindications, side effects, and route of administration for each drug.
Burns / Review 3 classifications of burns and 4 types of burns. Review treatment of each. Know rule of 9's for adults and infants.
AED / Review indications and contraindications for use of AED. Review how to operate the AED in the ambulance.
Stair Chair / Familiarize yourself with how to assemble and operate the stair chair.
KED / Be able to demonstrate proper use of KED and transfer to backboard.
Backboarding / Be able to demonstrate backboarding of a standing and prone patient.
Traction Splint / Review indications and contraindications for use of traction splint. Be able to demonstrate proper use of splint and loading patient in ambulance.
Pediatrics / Review pedi bag and use of Braslow tape and pedi-wheel.
Run Reports / Review run report documentation and know how we enter the reports in our computer.
CPR Card / My CPR Card is on file and has been turned in to ACP.
Ohio Card / My Ohio Card is on file and has been turned in to ACP.

Seconds Promotion Process

In order to be promoted to a Second, a promotions packet found in the blue binder must be completed. Squad members should be proficient at all topics covered in this packet. Once topics have been reviewed, each of the five areas of skills must be signed off by a crew chief as listed below. Crew Chiefs may question the candidate on any area of the promotions packet, but should only sign for their designated area. Once all five areas have been signed, the packet should be given to the Chief for final review.
