Dear Parents & Players,

Welcome to the 2017 cricket season!

It’s that time of year again as we embark on another cricket season at Doo’cot Park.

Junior training will start on Monday 24th April 2017 and will take place 18.30 – 20.00, although we would encourage attendees to be at the ground by 18.15 for registration and organised warm-ups. This will be aimed at all juniors aged 8-15 years. Those 14-15 years are also encouraged to attend senior training on Tuesdays at the same times, to ensure they start to make the best possible transition into senior cricket. Arrangements should be made for all players to be collected or to leave the premises by 8.10pm as supervision cannot be guaranteed beyond this time.

As well as training there is a full programme of fixtures arranged for all age groups and abilities. It is our plan to make sure that every cricketer gets one representative match for Doo’cot over the summer -weather permitting!

Teams at Under 13 and Under 15 level will play hardball matches against local opposition in the Strathmore Union Junior League. The Kwik Cricket caters for the under 10’s and we will be entering regular festival style events, which will be played on Sunday mornings throughout Perth & Kinross, and Fife. The under 11’s will play some hardball matches for those progressing beyond Kwik cricket, whilst the 13’s 15’s and an under 18 team are all entered into the Scottish Cup.

These will be across the region and will typically not be played on Monday evenings. The full fixture list is being finalised amongst the clubs in the Strathmore Union, and will be available soon.

To facilitate the many opportunities the juniors will have to play these games, we rely heavily on parental support with transport, especially to away matches. We would like to thank the many parents who supported the club in this way last season, and ask that all parents with players involved in away fixtures look to help out at some stage wherever possible during 2017.5. Also, if any parents want to know more about helping with junior coaching, please ask as the club is always looking for new volunteers!

Along with this letter, is enclosed a form which we require to be completed and returned to the registration desk on your first night attending practice. Membership fees should also be passed to the helpers at that point as well.

Memberships fees have increased to £35.00 for 2017. This subscription covers all training sessions and matches for the season through until the end of August. There are no match fees at individual games or tournaments. The club has also introduced a discounted rate for families with 3 or more junior members, with the 3rd, 4th member of the same family etc costing only an additional £10. Cheques should be made payable to Perth Doo’cot Cricket Club.

The only necessary piece of equipment, for hard ball cricketers is an Abdo guard (box). Appropriate underwear (not boxer shorts) should be worn to each training session, to allow the abdo guard to be effective and without it those players involved in hardball cricket will not be allowed to bat. Abdo guards can be purchased at a small cost from any good sports shop. We recommend that it’s the one piece of kit that every hardball players owns. The Club has plenty of pads, bats, gloves and helmets. This is not a requirement for those aged 10 and under playing kwik cricket.

Yours sincerely

The PDCC Committee.

Coaches

All Perth Doo’cot Cricket Club coaches have filed Disclosure Scotland Forms for an independent check on their personal history.

Parental Assistance

Anyone interested in helping with either junior coaching or the umpiring and scoring at junior matches should approach any of the coaches at one of the Monday night coaching sessions.

Treatment of Injury

Serious accidents are very rare – indeed, there is rarely a need for any treatment at all. The Club has registered first-aiders, and tries to ensure as far as possible that a first-aider is in attendance or within reach at any practice session or game. In the unlikely event of need to take a player to a doctor or to hospital, the Club endeavours to provide the appropriate number of people to accompany the player, but where there is any urgency, those Club members responsible are encouraged to use common sense.

Photography

Junior players may be photographed or filmed for purposes of record, publicity or training, but it is recognised that there can be concerns over the intentions of those seen to be filming the activities of young people. Anyone other than the Club’s authorised photographers, coaches and coaching assistants will be challenged if seen to be using a still or video camera.
