We have two consultancy groups: Power Systems & Technology (PST)and Planning & Environmental (P&E), operating from Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne and Glasgow. The PST Group has a strong existing workload and an excellent client base and has growth plans for our existing offices in Manchester and Glasgow. As such, TNEI is looking to recruit a high calibre graduate to grow our team.
Details of the Role
TNEI is looking to recruit a bright and driven graduate, PhD graduate or candidate with up to 2 year’s post graduate professional experience to the PST Group, specifically to work on a diverse range of strategic, regulatory and technical consultancy projects focussing on the energy industry.
The role will be based in either the Manchester or Glasgow office.
Background
TNEI has a very strong and busy PST team which delivers power systems consulting to solve issues such as integration of offshore and onshore wind and other generation into the electricity networks and the facilitation of smart grids. We regularly work with electricity network operators to support on technical issues and assist in optimising plans.
Changes in the electricity generation mix, such as the increase in renewable generation, coupled with aging electricity network infrastructure is presenting exciting challenges and opportunities for the electricity industry. This is driving developmentin regulation such as Electricity Market Reform (EMR), increasing transmission reinforcement including strong growth in HVDC, development of offshore networks and interconnectors, energy storage, demand side management and other activities.
These developments are leading to exciting and rewarding careers for those wishing to enter this market sector.
At TNEI we are known as a specialist energy consultancy with particular strength in undertaking complex technical analysis matched with an understanding of how that impacts the real world. As part of the Petrofac group we have opportunities to work on conventional generation, offshore oil and gas facilities, renewable generation and industrial projects. Weregularly advise bodies such as DECC (The Department of Energy and Climate Change), the Electricity Regulator, Ofgem and the Scottish Government. We also work closely with electricity generators and provide technical and commercial consultancy advice for those looking to connect to the networks including technical and commercial due diligence.
What we are looking for
We are looking for individuals who can understand and take an interest in the technical aspects of our projects, but with a desire to work in a consultancy environment where those technical results need to be applied to a real project in a commercial environment.
In particular, we are looking for the following:
- Motivated and self-driven individuals with an ambition to work within the electricity industry;
- Strong quantitative degree in engineering, maths or physics;
- Well-rounded individuals with the ability to work as part of a team;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The following are also desirable:
- Experience of network modelling and power systems analysis
- Interest in the UK regulatory situation
- Project management or project engineering experience
- Commercial awareness
- Knowledge of UK and international standards and codes
- Computer modelling/ programming skills
