Sub:Admission to the 2-Year PGDM Programme: 2017-2019 Batch.

Dear Candidate,

We are very happy to inform you that you have been provisionallyselected for admission to the Two Year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) course of our Institute for 2017-2019 Batch.

Please note that the Institute reserves the right to cancel your admission at any stage if it is found that you are not eligible for admission.

1.0:If you are in the final year of your graduation course, your final Degree Examination must be completed in all respects, including back and repeat paper etc., if any, before 3rdJuly 2017. Further, you must be able to produce evidence that you have passed your bachelor’s degree final examination with at least 50% (SC/ST 45%) marks. The mark sheet securing at least 50% (SC/ST 45%) marks must be produced before 30th September 2017. If you fail to produce the mark sheet as mentioned above within 30th September 2017, your admission will be cancelled and you will not be allowed to continue with the course. Fees, etc. paid will NOT BE REFUNDED.

2.0:You are accordingly requested to enroll yourself for the course during 7th June to 14th June 2017positively by paying the fees.

3.0:You may pay the full yearly academic fee of Rs.1,67,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Sixty SevenThousand) only in one installment for thefirst year. This would include Caution Money of Rs.4,000/- (Rupees Four Thousand) only, which will be refunded to you without interest on successful completion of the course.

4.0:The annual fee for the second year would be Rs.1,63,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Sixty ThreeThousand) only, who wants to pay annually. The 2nd year annual fee will have to be paid at the beginning of the 4th trimester classes.

4.1:You may also pay the academic fees in six installments as given below:

1st Installment Rs. 72,000/- (Including Caution Money to be paid during 7th June to 14th June 2017).

2nd Installment Rs. 47,500/- (to be paid before the beginning of 2nd Term, 1st week of Oct, 2017)

3rd Installment Rs. 47,500/- (to be paid before the beginning of 3rd Term, 2nd week of Jan, 2018)

4th Installment Rs. 68,000/- (to be paid before the beginning of 4th Term, 1st week of July, 2018)

5th Installment Rs. 47,500/- (to be paid before the beginning of 5th Term, 1st week of Oct, 2018)

6th Installment Rs. 47,500/- (to be paid before the beginning of 6th Term, 2nd week of Jan, 2019)

4.2:Those paying the academic fees in installments must pay the installments by the due dates mentioned above. Otherwise, the students will not be allowed to continue the programme.

4.3:Payment should be made by local cheque or demand draft made in favour of Assam Institute of Management payable at Guwahati.

4.4:It may be mentioned that Banks have liberalized schemes for offering financial assistance to students pursuing higher education. You may, if necessary, make enquiries with the banks and we shall be happy to help you with the requisite references.

4.5:Please note that the academic fee, in whole or part, is NOT REFUNDABLE under any circumstances. The Caution Money of Rs.4,000/- would be refunded without interest only after successful completion of the course.

4.6:2 (Two) copies of stamp size photograph for preparation of identity card and official records are to be given at the time of admission.

5.0:The programme will be formally inaugurated on 3rdJuly 2017 at 11.00 A.M. You are advised to be present at the inauguration ceremony. You are encouraged to bring guests to the ceremony.

5.1:Normal classes will start immediately after the inaugural ceremony is over.

6.0:Once enrolled, you shall be guided by the Rules as stipulated in the Institute’s Prospectus available at the Institute website and as framed from time to time. Special note may be made of the following:

6.1:Once enrolled, you will not be allowed to join or pursue any other full-time course of study or allowed to appear in any other examinations.

6.2:You will also not be allowed to join or continue with any full-time job during the course of the programme. Even for part-time jobs, prior permission from the competent authority of the Institute would be necessary.

7.0:Please note that the workload at the Institute would be comparatively heavy and continuously uniform. You would be expected to devote full-time and energy to meet the rigorous schedule and demands of the programme.

7.1:The Academic Calendar for the whole academic year will be given to you at the beginning of the session. The calendar is strictly adhered to. You must ensure that you follow the academic calendar scrupulously.

7.2:The Institute follows the system of continuous evaluation. This would entail surprise tests, completion of assignments and projects in time and other evaluation processes. It would be in your interest to ensure that you maintain 100% attendance.

7.3:The Institute has fewer holidays, long class hours and may even have classes on Sundays and Holidays to meet the tight academic schedule. You should mentally prepare yourself for the same.

7.4:The Institute would organise Guest Lectures, GK Tests, Debates, Demonstrations, Sports, Quiz, Mock Interviews and Industrial Visits, etc. and it would be compulsory for all the students to attend and take part in such activities.

7.5:It would be compulsory for the students to come to the Institute formally dressed on every Saturday. Formal dress for boys will be a light shirt with tie, a dark pair of trousers and a pair of leather shoes. For girls, formal dress would be Mekhela-Sadar or Sarees or any other traditional dress.

8.0: In the time available to you before commencement of the PGDM programme, you may prepare yourself for a future career in management. Please go through the Annexure – I, enclosed herewith.

8.1:We would now request you to complete the formalities during 7th June to 14th June 20172017and report to the Institute positively on 3rd July 2017at 11:00 AM for the programme. We look forward to a positive and constructive association with us, which would enable you to embark on a fruitful professional career in future.

Annexure – 1

  1. The medium of interaction in AIM is English and you shall have to refer to a large number of books, teaching and references materials, which will all be in English. In addition, you will be required to produce reports, assignments, projects, essays, which will be in English. A high level of English comprehension and expression (both written and spoken) will be required. In case you feel it necessary, you may use the period upto 3rd July 2017 to polish your English.
  2. In case you do not have a commerce background, you may not be familiar with basic of accounting. While we shall endeavour to impart to you the knowledge of accountancy, it may be advantageous to you if you try to familiarize yourself with basic accounting knowledge. Any accounting textbook at Higher Secondary level will be adequate for the purpose. You should have the following accounting knowledge level when you start the course.

Accounting Terminology: Business, business entry, accounting entry, assets, liabilities, capital, debtors, creditors, drawing, income statements, equities, accounting equation, balance sheet etc.

Double Entry System: Business transactions, rules for debit and credit, transaction analysis and accounting equation etc.

Books of Accounts: Journal, Ledger etc.

  1. In today’s world computer literacy is a must. In AIM, you shall have access to computers in an extensive manner. It will be up to you to make best use of the facilities. In case you are not familiar with the computers, you may use the time available now to make yourself at least familiar with the rudiments of computer usage. Please be familiar with the basic Operating Systems and Application Programmes such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPointetc. and fully conversant with various surfing tools.AIM subscribes to e-journals and databases. You should be in apposition to take full advantage of the e-resources.

It will be to your advantage if you have your own PC or Laptop which will greatly facilitate your learning in the Institute.
