ELIGIBILITY:

Open to all University of Kansas University undergraduate students with a BS major in chemistry or biochemistry, with plans to enroll in a PhD program in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Medicinal Chemistry. Premedical students are not eligible. Applicants should have taken at least 2 semesters of German at the University of Kansas (or at another college or university). Further German instruction can be taken in Dublin and Germany.

PROGRAM SYNOPSIS:

Students will spend the fall semester at Dublin City University (Dublin, Ireland), from mid-September until late January; then transfer to the University of Regensburg (Regensburg, Germany) for a 6-week intensive course in German, from early March through mid-April, followed by the summer semester in Regensburg, which runs from mid-April through late July.

Students, who successfully complete the program and write an Honors thesis on research begun abroad and finished at the University of Kansas, will be eligible for a Dual, Transatlantic BS Degree: one from the University of Kansas, the second from the University of Regensburg or Dublin City University. For seniors, the research project may begin in the US, and be continued in Europe in collaboration with scientists in Dublin or Regensburg

In addition to providing a broader scope to undergraduate education at the University of Kansas, a primary aim of the dual degree program is to provide adequate training to qualify the student for admission to any US or European University for study toward the PhD degree.

Students spending their junior year abroad should be able to graduate on time. Students who spend their senior year abroad should be able to graduate in August, but may need to spend an additional semester in residence at the University of Kansas before graduating.

FINANCIAL ASPECTS:

The Atlantis program provides a $12,000 stipend to cover travel and living expenses. Tuition and fees will be paid to the University of Kansas, and any additional financial aid will not be affected.
