1. GENERAL

If you have pre-customised this work section using the "questions and answers" provided as part of the downloading process, it may be necessary to amend some clauses to suit the final project-specific version.

The section must still be checked and customised to suit the project being specified, by removing any other irrelevant details and adding project-specific details and selections.

This section relates to Regupol® Underfloor Impact Sound Insulation under floorings:

- as an acoustic rubber underlay

- for every floor covering

- for use in commercial, retail, institutional and sports applications

Modify expand this clause to suit requirements of this specification section.

Regupol® Impact Insulation Mats consist of a mixture of polyurethane, foam and cork. Any final floor layer can be installed on top of Regupol®. It has a low structural height of 2-6mm. Sounds at the surface in the frequency range between 500-2,000 Hz are reduced, for example under laminate by 25%. Refer to Jacobsens for system performance.

1.1 RELATED WORK

Refer to ~ for ~

Refer to flooring sections for floor layer be installed on top of Regupol®.

Include cross references only to other work sections where they include directly related work.

1.2 ABBREVIATIONS AND DEFINITIONS

Refer to the general section 1232 INTERPRETATION & DEFINITIONS for abbreviations and definitions used throughout the specification.

The following abbreviations apply specifically to this section:

~

IIC impact insulation class

IIC is the amount of impact sound transmission loss through a complete construction like a floor, measured in decibels (dB)

Documents

1.3 DOCUMENTS

Refer to the general section 1233 REFERENCED DOCUMENTS. The following documents are specifically referred to in this section:

It is important to ensure that all personnel on site have access to accurate, up to date technical information on the many products, materials and equipment used on a project. In most cases individual products are not used in isolation, but form part of a building process. Also a particular manufacturer's and/or supplier's requirements for handling, storage, preparation, installation, finishing and protection of their product can vary from what might be considered the norm. Access to technical information can help overcome this potential problem.

Warranties

1.5 WARRANTY - MANUFACTURER/SUPPLIER

Provide a material manufacturer/supplier warranty:

5 years: For Regupol® Underfloor Impact Sound Insulation

- Provide this warranty on the manufacturer/supplier standard form.

- Commence the warranty from the date of purchase (suppliers invoice).

Refer to the general section 1237 WARRANTIES for additional requirements.

Modify or expand the clause to suit project or manufacturer/supplier requirements, options include:

- Change the standard form to be used (check with the manufacturer/supplier, use the general section 1237WA WARRANTY AGREEMENT if required)

Requirements

1.6 QUALIFICATIONS

Applicators to be experienced, competent trades people familiar with the materials and techniques specified.

1.7 NO SUBSTITUTIONS

Substitutions are not permitted to any of the specified Regupol® systems, components and associated products listed in this section.

1.8 SOUND CONTROL SITE TESTS

Site test the completed floor/ceiling system in accordance with NZBC G6/VM1 to ensure that the specified sound transmission loss has been achieved; using a nominated acoustic consultant. Carry out sound tests and certify compliance.

This clause needs to be coordinated with other floor related sections, who is responsible for organising the tests and paying for them, modify the clause to suit.

Use this clause where as built certification is required for a system that has not been tested elsewhere. It can also be used where it is critical to ensure that the IIC figures have been achieved.

On large projects tests are sometimes carried out on a staged bases as areas are completed, modify the clause if this is required. State the IIC figure in SELECTIONS, refer to Jacobsens for system performance.

2. PRODUCTS

Materials

The impact sound insulation for Regupol® for 4.5mm is approximately 18dB, for 4.5mm is approximately 20dB together with 2mm PVC (up to approximately 34dB with corresponding material thickness and choice of suitable top coverings).

2.1 REGUPOL® 4515 INSULATION

Regupol® 4515 made from polyurethane, foam and cork.

Suitable under all common floor coverings and for underfloor heating.

Accessories

2.2 SUBSTRATE PREPARATION - DRY AREAS

Jacobsen Uzin KE 2000S acrylic 1 part adhesive.

2.3 SUBSTRATE PREPARATION - WET AREAS

TwoUzin PE 480 Primer.

3. EXECUTION

Conditions

3.1 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

Take delivery of materials and goods and store on site and protect from damage.

Protect finished surfaces, edges and corners from damage.

Move/handle goods in accordance with manufactures requirements.

Reject and replace goods that are damaged or will not provide the required finish.

The general section 1270 CONSTRUCTION describes how deliveries are to be managed and the goods stored.

3.2 PRE-INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

Check work previously carried out and confirm it is of the required standard for this part of the work.

Application - preparation

3.3 SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

Ensure the substrate surface is level, sound, smooth, clean, dry and free from any contaminants which could affect adhesion.

3.4 BEFORE APPLICATION

Unroll and leave Regupol® in the area to which it is to be applied for a few hours prior to installation,to acclimatise.

3.5 ADHESIVE - DRY AREAS

For dry areas glue down using Jacobsen Uzin KE 2000S.

3.6 ADHESIVE - WET AREAS

For wet areas glue down using Uzin KR430.

Application - general

The following clauses are specific to the final floor layer. Delete the options not specified.

3.7 UNDER A CARPET

Glue the Regupol® to the subfloor and loose lay the carpet on top.

3.8 UNDER A TIMBER FLOOR

Regupol® can be glued to the subfloor or strips glued along the top of joists before installing a floating timber floor on top.

Avoid any fixings that penetrate through the base structure, to reduce the transmission of impact vibration. A separation layer may be introduced; an intermediate floating 22mm plywood floor, glued tongue and groove joints onto which floorboards or parquet can be fixed. Glue strips of Regupol® around the floor perimeter to isolate the flooring elements from the walls.

3.9 UNDER LINOLEUM / VINYL - 3mm ONLY

Regupol® can be glued to the subfloor or strips glued along the top of joists before installing a linoleum / vinyl floor on top. Lap at right angles to linoleum / vinyl drops.

3.10 UNDER CERAMIC TILES

Fix Regupol® to the subfloor with a flexible cement adhesive. Fix ceramic tiles on top of the Regupol® with a flexible cement adhesive and grouted with a flexible grout.

This is for non waterproof installations. Modify when waterproofing required.

Application

3.11 LAY REGUPOL®

Lay Regupol® mat evenly over the prepared surface. Use a craft knife and straight edge for cutting to size and ensure all edges are butt jointed. Lay the Regupol® into the adhesive and press from the centre outwards to exclude air and ensure overallcontact with the adhesive. Roll with a 68kg flooring roller from end to end and side to ensure contact. After 30 minutes, when the floor has been covered, roll once again. Do not apply loads or move furniture onto the Regupol® until the adhesive has fully set.

Modify to suit project.

Completion

3.12 ROUTINE CLEANING

Carry out routine trade cleaning of this part of the work including periodic removal all debris, unused materials and elements from the site.

3.13 DEFECTIVE OR DAMAGED WORK

Repair damaged or marked elements. Replace damaged or marked elements where repair is not possible or will not be acceptable. Adjust operation of equipment and moving parts not working correctly. Leave work to the standard required for following procedures.
